Absolutely. Traumatic events can cause your personality to splinter, which basically is a form of split or multiple personalities!

There correct term is actually "multiple personality" you can't have a split personality because a person's personality is singular. You can't have two at once that makes no sense. Take this for example. Say the day before you wanted to eat chicken only and were in a great mood and talking loudly to everyone. The next day however you become extremely depressed upon hearing about a group of Christians massacred by atheists, and are only in the mood to eat crackers and you only whisper to anyone that day. Does that mean you have two personalities? Of course not.

If a person is possessed by a demon or demons then they really might seem to have two or more personalities but those would be of the demons not the human. If the human was indwelt by God's Spirit then that human may seem to have two personalities but that still isn't having two because the Holy Spirit is not apart of the life force of the human but is instead controlling him.

No one has split personalities from birth, it is not a congenital defect. Split personalities is a form of disassociative disorder. It is brought on by a severe psychological trauma. The mind cannot cope with the trauma, and creates an alternate persona to absorb and deal with the damage, allowing the primary persona/personality to continue life relatively unaltered.

Dissociative identity disorder, or split personalities are not something that a person is born with, but are rather the result of the individual experiencing a traumatic event.

Usually, a horrific childhood, filled with sexual abuse, and just cruelty and abuse in general, can affect some very sensitive people...What happens, in many cases, is that they develop two personalites, to fill the void, and for protection...they can be very sweet, which is probably who they are in the first place, but then to protect themselves, an evil side emerges..I always say that a demon entered into their hearts,..their broken hearts, because without God or Jesus there,...they become a vessel for satan, without their own knowledge..isn't it funny, how usually,..the 'other' personality, is usually cruel and evil...I am talking from someone close, so I have seen it first hand...all I can do i pray..it is NOT a birth defect..it, like a phsycopath, is made

.no such thing as split personality.
it is the same one personality with a extreme or really observed reaction to a situation or stimulation that is a response learnt in early life.
smell or music or certain words can set some people off in to a behaviour pattern they may have little control over.
split personality disorder is an obsolete term no longer used in serious medicine.
