The Catholic Church sees the marriage celebration as a church community function and therefore their Canon Laws (rules) of marriage say that the ceremony needs to happen in the church. The website link goes to a Q&A regarding Catholic weddings. The Canon Laws are numbers 1050-1065 (I think).

Many people have officiants perform ceremonies outside of the church, like beach weddings, and though the wording and style can be similar, the church will not recognize these marriages a valid church marriages....they are recognized as legal, but only a catholic pries/deacon can perform the sacrament of marriage and since they only do these in the church, the outside marriage isn't recognized because the officiant isn't recognized as valid to perform the sacrament.

So, it is possible to have a ceremony in the "catholic style" outside of the church, but your marriage won't be recognized by the church as a valid church marriage.

No priest will perform a wedding on the beach. Catholic weddings only happen in Catholic churches. That's been a policy of the church for a very long time now.

It is hard to find but their ARE people out there who WILL do Catholic weddings on the beach.

Look around your area for marriage officiants or marriage celebrants that will do Catholic weddings on the beach. You could also see about getting a good friend ordained to marry you (check your state laws about this).

Priests usually work solely within their church... Catholic ceremonies are supposed to be held in a Catholic Church...the beach is not considered to be a religious place. Looking into a minister or pastor or justice of the peace... or get married in a Catholic Church

It will be nearly impossible because weddings are supposed to be held in a church in accordance to church doctrine. You would need to find a very liberal priest in do it who isn't affiliated with a specific church. It really isn't a Catholic wedding if it's on the beach. You're better off finding someone else to do it.

The Catholic church requires wedding be performed ONLY inside of a Catholis Church. I'd be really surprised if you could find any priest willing to marry you outside the church.

A wedding is a celebration of the faith community and the church is the place where the faith community gather to celebrate.

Instead of thinking of this as not being able to do something that you want, think of the fact that whenever you go to church on Sunday with your husband, you will be going to Mass at the place where you became husband and wife.

Hopefully, you and your future husband will be going to Mass more often than you will go to the beach. If you get married in the church building, you will be able to return every Sunday to the place where you began your married life together.

Perhaps it is not legal where you live, I know in the UK an outside ceremony is not legally binding, you have to marry in registered/licensed places only. Check out your local laws. Some priests feel this sort of marriage is not "dignified" and that it should be a solemn occasion in the church only. That's not my personal view, but I know some religious people feel that the only legal marriage is one in church "in the eyes of God"

Maybe it has to do with the Lord's supper and all the rituals involved having to be in the church. I have never been to a catholic wedding that was not in the church. Good luck!
