I am taking my ski instructors qualification in October and need to purchase some skis. Can anyone recommend a certain brand and/or retailer?

North Face makes clothes not skis. Your best bet is to start the season on rentals. Go out and find your local boot guy and get some good boots. This is a must, you will be spending most of your time in your boots chasing little ones so they better be comfortable. On your first few days off go out and try the skis out. Most Ski hills let the instructors take out skis for free. This will give you an Idea how the different brands perform and what works for you. In the market right now there really isn't a bad ski manufacturer out there. There might be better skis for you but all are doing a good job. Only you know how and what you ski. good luck and remember your teaching skis will get trashed from people using them to stop on.

i'm surprised that you are getting PSIA cert. and don't have an opinion already. Most shops will have a demo day for instructor / patrol candidates. best skis= VOLKL or ATOMIC . best advertised skis= salomon best for mass sells=K2 or Rossi . get some mid level skis and comfy boots for those teaching days. Many days you may never even have the two connected together.

Blizzard, Atomic, Kneissl, Salomon, all those have solid skis, the most important part is the boot, if you wanna spend some money get one fitted. If you don't have a good boot, the best skis won't do. Otherthan that, if you're good, go with advanced ones, if you're real good, you could consider race carvers (super G ones or giant slalom ones).

There is no one answer. The best advice is to find a shop that will let you demo, and try a few out.

One thing - I am not an instructor but as a low level instructor you will be demonstrating basic moves to beginners over and over again. High level race skis may not be the best for this.

It depends on what kind of skiing you will be doing. Blizzard makes good all round skis. Atomic makes nice racers. Salomon also makes some popular racers. Salomon and K2 make good terrain skis.
