These answers are correct, but keep in mind. Just because the TV may handle 1080p and have an HDMI connection, if it doesn't handle HDCP encryption and you watch a movie with it (many Disney movies are like this) you may not get it working. Check with the TV manufacturer to see if it supports HDCP over the HDMI connection, and if it doesn't, make sure you don't get movies with that encryption, or just watch HDCP movies over a component connection.

Well it you make sure your settings are correct, a Blu Ray should come out at 1080p. A normal DVD has only 480 lines of resolution, but any Blu Ray player should upconvert it to 1080p. Some might only go to 1080i. But I'd expect to see 1080p for upconversion of normal DVDs.

Your 1080p TV will Always display at its native resolution; which means, regardless of the player you use, sd movies will be scaled up (as needed) and displayed to 1080p.
