New Haven Conn. mayor has started to issue ID cards to illegal aliens. Why wont the police arrest them when they come in for the ID cards? they are known criminals. they make no attempt to hide that fact. its like the difference between a man selling drugs in a back alley, where they are not sure what he is doing, and the same man in a store called "drugs are us" with daily drug specials posted out front and drugs on display in the windows. the second guy makes no attempt to hide it.
the police do not like it when people say they just sit around eating doughnuts ( like in "police academy". they are teaching the recruit about doughnuts while the bad guys are lighting the police car on fire) but here we have the police doing just that. standing around eating doughnuts while criminals are waiting in line for ID cards.
is there a cop out there who can explain this?

the same law they would arrest me for if a friend of mine killed a cop and i was the one that gave him a fake ID so he could hide from the cops.
it is illegal to assist a criminal.

i was going to give you an honest reply until i saw you were nuts.
Bush didnt need to hit the world trade center, he could have faked an attack on some unknown military post and got the same result, without needing to find a plane, pilots and passengers, then make them all disappear.
even a remote controlled plane into the WTC would have been easier.
no wait, i got it, area 51 ! aliens did it !
and yes, illegal aliens are pushing me out of my job. they keep hiring more of them.

The police answer to the mayor's office and he wants votes. The mayor can and has in certain towns specifically ordered the police to NOT ask immigration status. The Police are caught in the middle. Call your Mayor & raise hell! HE works for you.

Police do what they are allowed to do. Some cities do not allow their police to even ask a person they have already arrested if they are illegal.
I would HAPPILY arrest them for being illegal...just have the city say I can.
The movie "Police Academy" is nothing like real police work. In the time I have spent in law enforcement I have not seen one cop/correctional officer eat a single donut...but I have seen them bust their butts everyday for no praise for a public that doesn't appreciate the dangerous work they do.

I could wax on about this topic. If I had it my way we would send them all back where they belong tomorrow. One of my squad members (Miss Guided) arrested a guy from El Salvador the other night for DWI. I was going through his car and found his pay stubs where he "worked" at a Chinese restaurant and papers where he was wiring nice sums of money back to his home every week. This guy probably belongs in this country about as much as I belong behind the scalpel performing surgery.
Anyway if it makes you feel any better I have contacted INS to come and pick some of them when we had a bunch of them. But it is rare for local Police to have the time/resources to go after the illegals like that. If the Feds provided us with some sort of support (i.e. training) for dealing with them then things might change. Until them me and my crew are usually busy dealing with drunk drivers, domestics, crazies, etc.

Ok in response to this, all I can really say (because the way this reads is confusing) is that it doesnt matter where you go or where you come from there are criminals. its not like there is a sign on the heads of these immigrants that says whos a criminal and whos not. I guess you are saying that because they are here illegally they are criminals, but its a federal matter not a city, county, or state matter. At least this way they are able to keep tabs on whos here. Also when you make reference to a movie and compare it to real life, thats a real sign of ignorance, movies arent real.

as much as I think that would be a pretty clever idea to do, and some people wanted by the law have fallen trap to winning contests ploys like this -- it would only work for like 1 or 2 days.
When people start realizing theyre friends have been deported and stop falling for it, what do you do then?
AN, at same token, what would be the public backlash to a mayor or any politicians that used a ploy.
Unless you are deep in an area that supportsthis, expect the ACLU and every other service organizatio to go berzerk, and demands heads to roll.

Well, I'm not a police man but , anything related to inmigration is a concern of the federal government and not you nor I can do anything. Furthermore, as i remember, the American natives never called George Washington an illegal nor denied him the right to stay and prosper in America. So please focus your energy into some positive issue like how to keep the good paying jobs from going to china or India ,Singapore, Thailand or any of those nations with cheap labor, remember, the illegal in the US are taking only the left overs and I 'm sure you are not here because any of these jobs is being taken from you. In addition, if you care so much for the space these immigrant are invading , write to you representatives tell them to pay more for the oil coming from Mexico, tell them to stop coercing the Mexican government to send the oil because the debt they have against the International banks presided by American corporate, then maybe Mexico will breathe better and take care of it;s people. bcse generaly the police dpts don't have the man power to deal with the hundreds of illegals they run in to. and you don't see ins paddy wagons traveling the country picking up and removing them either.
the police can only do so much about it- if we spent all our time focused on illegals we would not have time to handle the hunreds of other calls we get daily....
sorry ma'am i know you have been waiting 6 hrs for an officer to respond to your accident... however we are busy checking ids to find illegals and taking them back to mexico.. you will just have to wait more...

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it illegal.
And, no, the local police cannot arrest these people for violation of federal immigration laws because the local police are NOT ALLOWED to enforce federal immigration laws. That's in the plain text of the federal laws.

If all of the cops in New haven were tied up dealing with illegal aliens, you'd complain that there were none available to do anything else.

It's quite simple. local law enforcement agencies generally do not have anywhere to put the illegal aliens they encounter. And they certainly don't have the budgets necessary to feed the individuals once they detain them. Simple economics my friend, simple economics.
