Wow, I wish God Himself could answer this for us -- cause this is one of the most awkward things of life to endure, especially in the workplace.

I usually tried to acknowledge everyone I at least knew by sight. I would say "hey" or "hi" in the halls or at the VERY LEAST smile at them. Many times they would not respond to me, which was so odd. But it's better to be the one who initiated than the one who didn't. Set an example for others of what it means to be cordial and welcoming.

It depends on the situation. If this person close to me, I might stop and chat. But if not, I just smile or wave, and if it someone I dislike, I turn my face so I dont need to see them

I never say "hello" to someone. Not even when I
answer my telephone. When doing the latter, I'll
always say: "Yes?" And if I see someone I know,
well, it varies. I might say "Hi." I might say "Hey,
stranger." Or, I might say... "What's brand new
and exciting?" It really depends on the situation.
But "hello"? No. That's my least favorite word in
the English language. (Very cold and shallow.)
Its origin, just in case you didn't know, is from
the British slang word, "hallo."

Just say hi and a quick wave. If they try to stop you, just say "Sorry, I am running late. I'll catch up with you later".

if you don't like them just pretend you didn't see them, or just say a quick hi
If you're ok with them just stop and say hi and ask them what they're doing/where they're going
