People realize that dogs are very popular. They steal and sell them. They put ads in newspapers and wait for a buyer to cal or go to their house.

If you have dogs, keep them inside your house, or, wherever you can keep your eyes on them. Make sure your dogs has tags and other pertinent Identification Information on him or her.

Woof! Woof!

I wasn't aware that there is an increase in theft. I wish I knew where you lived. Years ago someone took my dog when she was a puppy. They bred her. I don't recall now (it was in the 70's) how I found out that she was in a town near where I lived. She was a striking looking animal so I think someone told my son. I put an add in the paper offering an outrageous reward for a dog that had been missing a year. I couldn't believe they called, also the police called and said it was the dumbest thing I could do. I'm to meet them somewhere and they would rob me or worse. The police met them and got my dog and one of her pups for me. I took the puppy to the ASPCA. A week or so later I got a notice that I was being sued for her board. Needless to say I ignored it.

It depends on where your are staying and what breed your dog is? If you're living in an urban or suburban area, it's more likely that your dog pet got lost. If your dog belongs to the giant or large type of dog such as Rottweiler, it's more likely that it was stolen for use to fighting other fighting dogs like the pit bull.

The increase in all crimes reflect the increase in drug use. People will steal and sell anything valuable to get money for drugs. We had a chihuahua stolen out of our fenced yard a couple of years ago,

Crackheads looking for easy cash mostly.

Edit: If you catch one trying to steal your dog, beat "it", stomp it, then call the cops to pick up the "trash" from your property, these scum don't even rate as human.
