watch tv shows on ur tv while the sound can be heard via the home theater system? Cuz lets say i want to watch mtv but i want the sound to be played by the home theater. How do i do that?

It is possible, but you neglected to provide the equipment you have for anyone to provide that best possible connection. Please provide details like brand and model number for your TV, DVD, Cable /sat provider and box etc...

With this kind of information those here would be better able to not only provide the optimum connection and configuration for your current issue but everything else as well.

The jacks provided on the tv's rear can be used 2 connect ur home theatre 2 the tv n enable the options with the home theatre's remote control

i can assist u in setting up a sony home theatre 2 ur tv, if u happen 2 own a sony home theatre

on the back of either your cable box or tv there is audio output jacks. should be either rca or optical or both. Plug this into the home theater and click the input selector on the audio receiver.

the hdmi connection you have only goes 1 way. you need to connect the tv's audio output to an audio input on the system with the speakers.

I don't think it can be done. It only comes on when you turn on the dvd.
