What would I use to treat or seal an aromatic wood like cedar so the scent would remain?

Don't seal it with anything or you will lose the smell. You can "re-activate" the smell simply by wiping some water on it and putting it back into the drawer if it is a Small freshener.

Don't drown the wood, just a damp sponging will work.

I'm afraid that is imposable. Once you seal cedar with shelac or polyeurithane you loose the fragrance. Now if you seal the cedar and want it to have that fragrance ,you can buy cedar oil spray and ocasionly over spray the wood. Another alternative is if the cedar is on the inside of ,lets say a box, then place a smell piece of unfinished cedar inside it. To rejeuvinate the fragrance, ocasionally sand the piece of cedar wood to open the poors of fragrance again.

You would lightly sand the surface of the wood to renew the smell. Or, there are products at stores like Wal-Mart that you spray on to renew the cedar odor. You wouldn't want to seal cedar; that would defeat the purpose of having cedar in the first place, to repel moths, insects, etc.

If you seal it the aroma gets sealed in to... Best always to leave Cedar raw to get the full smell. Jason

Don't do it. Leave it the way it is. All my closet cabinetry uses cedar for cabinet backing and drawer bottoms.
