Mail call is everyday but Sunday so as long as they have mail they will get it. Hubby did just say that sometimes they will hold the mail for the weekend but that depends on the Drill Sgt. at the time. But he received mail Monday - Friday.

It will take as long as it would to get anywhere else in the united states that you would mail to someone not military.

Nope no limit on what you can send them. Though I can tell you when hubby was in basic training he had to do 20 pushups for every letter that he recieved. LOL. When I found this out, I told hubby that i would stop writing him. He said no that all the pushups his was doing from receiving from my letters was helping him on his PT ( I was sometimes sending like 1-3 letters a day) on top of his other family members sending him letters.

But that is the best part of the day for most soldiers, is mail call. No matter where they are, letters are what keep most going.

It takes basically the same amount of time for normal mailing with an extra day on the military end for distribution there.

Mail is the main way trainees have of keeping in touch with loved ones at home. It is VERY important to send mail as often as possible. Give the GI has info about home and LOTS of pictures. Particularly of happy events going on. And remember the razing that people get about stuff. If he or she ask you to send letters 'nondescript' please do so.

Remember that contraband can get a GI in a great deal of hot water. Check with the GI or the recruit in town as to what can and cannot be mailed.

Unless things have changed since I went through, they have mail call every day except Sunday (for the obvious reason). It takes mail an extra day or two to get to them, because it has to enter the military system. You'll be fine if you stick to letters, pictures (of fully-clothed people) and socks/underwear.

They also won't get mail if the post closes for weather, but you shouldn't have to worry about that in the Summer.

mail goes through the mail center on base and there are certain things you cannot send like food, porn, etc. check the militray branch website to find out what specific. so don't try to be funny and send something because the person you are sending it to will get punished for it. i know one guy, army, received a pink t-shirt with 'marines' printed on it from some friends as s joke, the drill sergeant didn't think it was funny so he paid by being smoked pretty badly. anyway, you can send as many letters and cards as you want, they receive them everyday at mail call except for sunday. its very important to send letters and pictures of home to your soldier in basic as its a very difficult and lonely time for them. when my son's were in basic i sent letters and pictures of the house, their rooms etc. because it was during the holidays and they told me many times how great it was to have their name called during mail call and to see pictures of home. i can't imagine what it was like for those soldiers who had no one to write them or send them cards. i kept a steady supply of postcards and greeting cards and sent something almost every day, it really helps them get through it easier knowing someone cares.
