why is this? as we know the majority of America is Christian. Whenever i see a question about beliefs, such as evolution and creation, creationists get multiple thumbs down while atheists don't, is this because atheists have no lives, and nothing better to do on a saturday night then to put others down? lame people, go and hide before darwin comes back and smites you, by making you all monkeys

Perhaps if you actually got out in the world more and mixed with a variety of people - you'd find that the numbers of "non-creationists" on Yahoo! answers representative of the general population. To say that the "majority" of America is Christian is a misnomer - many people identify on census polls as Christian, that doesn't mean they actually buy the goods, it means they'd rather check the box that represents what type of household they were raised in.

And I find it telling that anyone that doesn't use "I'll pray for you" or "the answer is Jesus" in all other categories - especially when it comes to questions of a political or ethical nature regarding abortion or pre-marital sex get the same treatment you're ascribing to Atheists, only it comes from the Christians. By your own analysis - that must mean that Christians are lame and have no life - and it's not just on Saturday night.

Your box is far, far too small!

Once and for all, every Yahoo! Answers section is about a topic. So here this is ABOUT Religion & Spirituality. It does not say anywhere "Exclusive Christian Club-House for Mutual Admiration Society". If you want such a thing, go elsewhere. But also expect no intellectual growth whatsoever when you're there...

Given what the open topic is about, you might expect to see some NEGATIVE views about religion or some questioning that there even is anything spiritual at all. This is, if you'll forgive the expression, the nature of the beast...

As for the oft-quoted claim that Atheists have no life, well.

1) There will be many Atheists that, in fact, truly have no life. But most don't go to your doorstep at six in the morning on a Saturday to knock on your door and question your religious beliefs. I've had a few religious people in my life knock on my door, but I just waved my science diplomae at them and they cringed, bared their fangs, pulled their black cloaks over their faces and slunk off.

2) The excesses of religion are worth expending effort to oppose, very actively, and vigorously. How vigorously must be left to the individual. Atheists have no "obligatory observances". But so much bad stuff has happened, like those Christians from a perfectly ordinary denomination that ended up getting so extremely brain-****ed that they compelled themselves to drink the cyanide Kool-Aid and die in the jungles of Guyana. I say, never again!

I always find the opposite is true.

I figure the reason why there are so many creationists (Thanks, you're better than spell check) on yahoo answers is because there must be a high concentration of library access computers in america's deep south.

If your display wasn't of stewie, you'd have no redeeming factors whatsoever. ;P (How is that againt stewie?)

Watch me get the thumbs down!

(It's funny...do you understand the theory of evolution? Do you understand the church's stance? They basically accept evolution...it's in the front of my Bible, they believe there was some force (God?) guiding evolution. Anywho anyone who believes everything as true, such as Adam and Eve, just because it's written in the Bible, needs a wake up call...Have you read the Bible? They're moral stories.

Look. When I first read your question I wanted to press that report abuse button so much, but I'm not like that. You made me really mad by saying that atheist have no lives! We are not all the same. Do you christians (i know I'm writing it in small letters) still believe that God created earth and life?! It is just impossible! America, America... and the rest of the world???
I'm not against of christians, but you wanted to get answers.
And I'm not doing bad by not being christian. You don't have to be if you don't want to, so I don't denied god, because he didn't said that I have to be one of them.

Evolution is not a belief. It is both a scientific fact (the fossil record) and a scientific theory of equal or greater standing than the theory of gravity; the Copernican theory that the earth revolves around the sun; nuclear theory; and Einstein‘s special Theory of Relativity.

Many Atheists are here protecting America from assualt by scientifically illiterate and anti-US Constitution conservative Christians who would like to replace America’s secular democratic republic with a quasi-theocratic fascist government based on the doctrine of their sadistic and humanity-hating God.

Wow, forget the section, now we can't even be on this site!

ROFL

Btw...this section is not just Americans, and not just Christians. And I get plenty of thumbs down when just stating my own view, so stop being such a cry baby and open your eyes to the fact that it's pretty much equal both ways.

It's because there are a lot more atheists than you realize. Most atheists are closet-atheists. The majority-christian popluation has made it taboo for people to admit that they don't believe in the existence of god. For example, if you admit that you're an atheist, you'll be looked upon as though you have no morals, even though this is clearly wrong. This is changing though, and more people are starting to come out.

Atheist have a passion for demonstrating to religionists just how absurd and irrational their ideas are. It's sort of like when Christians witness to poor lost souls except the shoe is on the other foot.

I really don't think you have any room to talk about people being lame. Can't you think of a more insightful question to ask than one that has been done to death on R&S? Frankly, I'm tired of answering it.

Perhaps your statistics are a bit skewed. There is also the possibility that you don't quite grasp the notion of a "public forum."

By the way, there is a difference between "then" and "than."
