okay. so i abs. hate my skin. i have had acne since i was 11 and i just turned 18. its pretty much all over my forehead and chin and the sides of my face and a little around my nose. really red. some whiteheads. just red bump type things. i have never been to a dermatologist, i dont know why. my acne has never botehred me this much i guess. but now its all i think about, all day long, everyday. its def. affecting me and my relationships with other people alot. i rarely want to leave the house. crying is not uncommon. ive tried all the otc stuff and proactiv. none help at all. do you think a derm. would prescribe some accutane for me? im not particularly interested in trying any creams or anything else they may prescribe. ive suffered enough, gimme the stuff that will work yano. i know all the side effects, i've done my reading. anything is worth it for clear skin. thanks (:

Hey,
I've been in the same situation, since I was 11, and I am now 18 as well.

However, I have seen a dermatologist, and I'm hoping you will do the same.

Over the counter stuff sucks, it's too loaded with dyes, fragrance and chemicals.

I know acne sucks, and I'm so sorry it is effecting your daily life so much.

I strongly suggest a visit to the dermatologist. He/She may not immediatley put you on accutance, depending on the severity of the acne. But please don't be discouraged by topcial creams/lotions/gels/cleansers...I know you think they can't be any better than OTC stuff, but they are. They are chemically engineered to be more effective. While an oral medication may be necessary to help reduce the amount of acne, it is unlikely a dermatologist will not prescribe you a prescription or two for a cleanser or topical to help maintain your skin. Just give what they recommend a try, you never know what will work for you until you give it a try, and if something doesn't work out, let your dermatologist know ASAP so you can try something else.

I personally have an oral medication, and topicals. Every so often, I also get what is called a chemical peel, they are very effective, and are performed at the dermatologists office. They are excellent for evening the skin tone and reducing the appearance of scars.

I wish I knew more about your skin type, as far as sensitivity goes.

You could mention it to him, but he knows what's best for you, and could prescribe you anything, I've been from med to med and they still haven't found a good one for me. Talk it over with him and he can determine if you need it or something stronger or less strong.

If you ask the doctor to give you accutane, I'm sure that they will especially since it seems like you don't just have one pimple that is bothering you.
