I'm thinking about getting an appartment at 54th street and 9th ave, is this a safe area of town for my family?

It's on the border between Sunset Park and Boro Park. That area of Sunset Park is heavily Chinese and Boro Park is Hasidim.

It's not that bad.

If your referring to Manhattan (first poster mentions brooklyn) then yes its a safe neighborhood...its in midtown west, some would call it "hells kitchen", but i assure you only the wealthy can reallly live there.

Closest subway will be on 59th/8th which isnt too far and 9th avenue is not the most busy avenue in the city.

In my opinion, its okay, but its mostly business and noise of midtown,..not a neighborhood that would ever be peaceful but would be cool to visit for your out of town friends

It's a great neighborhood if your speaking of Manhattan. I suppose you have the $5K/month you will probably be spending on rent. Are you sure you're speaking about Manhattan? Not many people would question this area. Perhaps you are questioning Brooklyn or Queens?

That's expensive real estate. A two-bedroom apartment will cost you close to $3,000 a month. It used to be a slum, known as Hell's Kitchen, no more. They rebuilt that area today it's prime real estate.
