I am thinking of switching from a cell phone to having a land line because my cell phone service is terrible here and we have few towers. I keep seeing ads about digital phone service (land lines) and want to know does this service work from the towers like cell phones? If so, no need for me to subscribe to digital land line services, right? How does this work?

good choice!!

you have several choices here!

all you need is DSL high-speed Internet!!

you can get broadband with a cable provider, like com-cast, time-Warner,or earthlink etc. they also will install it and you can get support with these provider later on....or, you can get a provider, like vonage (lousy costumer service) ViaTalk, or Packet8....you will have to do your own installation, activate the VoIP phone, and do all the troubleshooting yourself....the choice is yours....I got Packet8....its was very easy to do....5 minutes and your up and running!!!

but, remember....full service providers are more expensive....then vonage, P8 etc....you can check out the exact price at dslreports.com....tax...fees.E911 State tax....city tax.....yes, VoIP is finally creeping up like the landlines!!

We have Verizon as our home phone provider and we never had any problems. Actually, it also depends on your area. Some areas are not reachable by some phone providers. Just a few months ago, I had our long distance cut off because we have cell phones anyway so we're now paying a lot less. Customer service is excellent especially when we got a problem with our DSL service. Hope this helps you....but I think you need to research for more options because as what I said, it often depends on your area of coverage.

If it's land line service it's just that - LAND LINE! :) It does not work thru cell towers. The calls travel thru wires to your house. They work just fine.

Digital vs. analog - doesn't matter for general voice communication - you can make and recieve calls without the cell fone problems. :)
