It's not only a majority of Christians that do this and teach that. Most major belief systems look towards a day when the other belief systems want exist anymore on earth and everyone is either Atheist/Humanist/secularism from their perspective, or Jewish/Judaism from their perspective, or Christian/Catholic from their perspective, and or Muslim from their perspective. There are large segments within each of the popular beliefs that try to equally convert, their are some Atheist that try to get children to denounce religion on the internet and think it is child abuse for the parents to teach their children their religion and they want to stop it some would even if they could outlaw it, so I am not sure why you are focusing so much on Christianity.
Gain a broader perspective you may be able to perceive something vital about human nature and generalizations are never a good thing, however many Christians do try to convert, but like I showed in the above most do or the very least they are dreaming of a time where the other religions or beliefs beyond its perspective no longer exist, each wants to negate the other.

I lived as the world lived for 35 years and people prayed for me, my sister prayed for me for 19 years and she never stopped cuz she loved me and that's why we won't give up,Christians have seen and felt the love of God and we Christians just want to see other people experience the love and grace of God.We Christians care that is why we do what we do,I have to say thoe some Christians don't go about it the rite way, just cuz we are Christians doesn't mean we are perfect by any meens.Yes you are rite I was told about the lord bit I also saw the love and the joy God had brought to these Christians life.I was miserable living as the world lived and it was my choice to give my life to God.No one talked me into it,I figured there had to be something better than what the world offered me and that was nothing but heart break and misery.I hope this helpes a little.

and do YOU honestly think that by writing all that you just wrote is not putting your views off on other people??? We all do it...... every time anyone writes out their complaints about how they think others are trying to *convert* them they are putting their own ideas out in the open..... and you honestly think you are OPEN MINDED when you put down or condemn a Christian for putting forward their ideas and beliefs and faith ??? and have YOU studied or really looked into or thought upon the idea that there might just be God the Father ??? I was NOT spoon fed anything...... so Please be careful of what you say, and do not generalize and categorize what YOU assume is the truth about *Christians* !!!! God bless

So. What would be Your ORIGINAL thoughts and ideas about life, creation, existence....everything? If there is something new to ponder, I'd like to hear it.
Everyone, even geniuses are but a product of the society and times they live in. You have something original that has not been perceived before?

Human ego and self-validation is the impetus that drives people to try and convince another of an idea or ideology.
However, if people will use their common sense / light of christ / spirit of understanding they will know and understand reality better than could ever be taught or learned in any religious or church setting.

My reasons are selfish. Jesus won't return until the number of the Gentiles is filled and I want to be in the rapture. As I'm old now I'm in a hurry. Other than that it's just stuff like we want to see everyone possible saved from the coming judgment. Jesus told us too. We care about you. Nothing to get in a sweat about.
God Bless!

The point of evangelization is not to create an army of Christians that don't even think for themselves. The reason we try to convert others is because we wish others to share in the same joy that we have.
However, I feel many Christians forget this and can turn into annoying mercenaries. This makes me sad.
The spirit of honest evangelization is not to brain-wash everyone to our way of thinking, but to unshackle unbelievers from the ways of the world so that Christ can truly free them. Please understand that even if you don't want to be a Christian in any way, but people still try to convert you that it is not to annoy you or to brainwash you. They only want to share their joy.

Because it is a direct command from God to the Church He personally founded, to "go forth and make disciples of all peoples". Though the manmade churches of the last few hundred years received no such command from God, they do use the book compiled by the original Christian Church, and therefore they have read about this command, and try to carry it out as well.

Because sharing the Gospel is a fundamental of our faith.
Also, consider that if you took your own advice--ie think for yourself and explore ideas, you wouldn't be afraid of Christians sharing their beliefs. I know I'm not afraid to hear views and opinions of different faiths and non-faiths---because I have considered and explored. I don't mind if someone tries to "convert" me, because I am firm in my own faith--all have to do is thank them for their time and their concern for me and go about my business. If you don't want to hear a Christian talk about their faith all you need to do is say, "I'm not interested".....but if you're contention is that Christians shouldn't practice their faith through sharing the Gospel, then what you are doing is trying to force YOUR non-prosyletizing faith on them...in otherwords you're trying to force us to convert to your religious view.

Well, you certainly seem curious. :o)
I am a Christian and yes I do feel an urgency to present the opportunity of eternal salvation to all that ask.
We are created by a wonderful Creator who loves us dearly.
We sin.
Basically we sin by choice and to sin is to DISobey that which God commanded us not to do AND commanded us to do.
Life is SHORT. Even 100 years is SHORT compared to eternity.
I want to show everyone, who wants to go, HOW to spend eternity with their Creator.
Those who do not want that, make the choice of eternal banishment.
Hell is something NOBODY would want...but lots of folks choose it.
What is the URGENCY to convert others?
The urgency is a love of people and a knowledge of the oracles of God.
I want none to be lost...but unfortunately most will be because of their stubborness and refusal to be in obedience to their Creator.
The urgency is compelled by LOVE.
Have a great day. :o)
