I feel like staying up when it's dark and sleeping when it's light. In other words, it's kinda like my body thinks I'm on a night shift. I do know what caused it: I was up really late doing something super important and ended up going to bed at like 7 AM or so.
So my question: How can I get my sleep schedule back to normal? I want to go to bed at 12:00 AM and get up at 8:00 AM everyday.
I tried forcing myself to get up earlier so that I'm tired at night, but I just can't get up. My circadian rhythm is officially screwed up I'm afraid. I don't wanna take any sleeping pills or anything like that. Maybe you know of some kind of herbs or something, or maybe a technique to make me fall asleep when I want to?
Thanks for your help!

You can approach it several different ways. You can try staying up for 24 hours or whatever it takes to get you to your bed at the right time or you could just make your self go to bed an hour earlier every night and alarm to get up an hour earlier than you have been. I did the same thing years ago in my youth and part of the problem I had was I had no burning need to be anywhere specifically. Once I got back into classes (I was in college and got messed up during break), it only took a couple of days and I was back on track again. So work at it gradually or go cold turkey. Or just wait until you have stuff in your life that will require you to get back on track...one way or another you'll get back where you want to be. One thing for sure worrying about it is basically a waste.

I'm not sure how old you are, but i read somewhere that the sleeping patterns of some teenagers gets flipped for some reason becuse of hormones. I know it sounds rediculous but there are so many teens with this problem that it just makes sense. Just go to bed early and wake up earlier than usual and that might fix the problem, however from my experience with the same situation it doesnt really work too well. Try doing vigorus exercise a couple hours before going to bed at night or smoke some pot or something. Maybe that will help.

Some people say melatonin helps. I know benedryl and dramamine make me sleepy.
There's a product called the happy light. It starts at dawn with a little light and increases until you are in simulated broad daylight. It's hard to sleep w/ that much light.
I use a similar product that simulates daylight because I suffer from SAD. I watch tv one hour btwn 11a-4p with the light on. It helps me set my rhythm a little earlier, so that I want to sleep around 10p instead of 12p. And, I'm a bit happier, I guess. Sleeping pills work better.

There is a biochemical that is normal to body for controlling the circadian rhythm called melatonin and is available off the counter in CVS. One week should do the trick. I travel so much crossing time zones that I often need it.

1. Valerian Root helps you to fall asleep naturally and Chamomile will relax you as well.
2 Or listen to the CD called The Delta Sleep System, it puts me to sleep every time.
3. Just try to break yourself in slowly, go to bed an hour earlier than usual, then gradually go to 2 hours earlier and work your way up to where you want to be.

You need to force yourself to stay up. First, try to go to bed at 9, and wake up at 11. Then, go to sleep at 10, and wake up at 10. Work until you are back on schedule.

Sounds like a trip to the doc to get you on a weeks worth on med to get your body back into the regular clock, after that, no caffiene, not even in your pop, and go to bed anyway at 12 like you want!

Same exact problem here. I have found temporarily successful ways, but within a few days (which are very hard on my body) my sleep pattern returns to its original state.

i've heard different theories on this. i think your best bet is to stay up for about 24 hours, then start over.
chamomile tea used to help me get to sleep and i love the taste. now i pray and meditate my way into dreamland. i enjoy the image of God embracing me as i drift off. it makes me feel safe and loved.

I don't think there's a really helpful solution, just make yourself tired and go to sleep early. It always works for me.
