That particular quote is in dispute due to lack of verifiable sources to the best of my knowledge however assuming he said it I can only say it appears to be the mans opinion and isn't a fact that can be called true or untrue. Except for the part about causing erections. I would accept that erections probably happen even on holy men.
If you do have a source for which writing by St. Augustine of Hippo includes that quote then you should post it to settle the dispute as to whether or not he said it.

St. Augustine was a nut. He converted to Christianity at a late age as a promise to his mother on her deathbed. He spent all his time up until then partying with whores, which is why he had a hatred and distrust for women. He took this out on women in his doctrines. He had some very strange ideas and it amazes me how they got accepted into the church, but most of the doctrines of the church were concocted by mad monks and unbalanced priests.

This quote is usually passed around without being credited to any original source. When we are given a source, it is usually attributed to
The Dark Side of Christian History by Helen Ellerbe. However, this is not an original source from an actual work of Augustine. In order for this
quote to be given serious consideration, skeptics need to come up with something other than Source Unknown when copying and pasting this quote
onto their websites.

Abrahamic religions were designed by men who were deeply distrustful and scornful of women, hence the misogyny you see in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. People say that Islam is barbaric (which it is by 21st century standards) but Islam is based heavily on the barbarism of the Old Testament. There are old Jewish laws calling for disobedient children to be executed. Stoning was the preferred method of execution for blasphemy and apostasy for early Christians. Islam is more than 1,000 years behind the two other Abrahamic religions. At the core, all Abrahamic religions are based on the same barbarism, misogyny and misanthropy of Middle Eastern desert religion. Pre-Abrahamic pagan religions were equally as barbaric if not moreso. The Middle East has always been a place of barbarism.

*Snort* Hideous and involuntary erections? Yikes.
Augustine had a problem with sex. If you read any of his works, especially his Confessions, there's no denying it. He was a great Christian mind, in my opinion, but he was obsessed with women and made them into bad guys. He had a very Oedipus like relationship with his mother Monica, and carried on a long term affair with a woman who he ended up breaking up with because he thought God told him to.
I admire the man's brain, and a lot of his theological thoughts, but hate his approach to women.
Kind of like Plato, who thought that women don't have souls.

Having never been a holy man, I can't speak from experience on this matter; however, as an ordinary testosterone producing individual, I can attest to the involuntary erections of which the stainted one speaks...
Segregate women...? No effin' way...
and hideous? I don't think so.

Augustine was afraid of women, chances are the poor fellow died a virgin. Why Christianity should choose him as a beacon of the faith is beyond me. The man was out of his bleeding mind.

Holy men with that problem should be in a monastery. Educate a woman and you have educated a family.

Isn't he the one that couldn't "get enough"? Had children, too? Haha. He had a problem and blamed women for it. Typical.
