What were your experiences? What did the person say to you? Did they call the police? How long did they talk to you? Are you glad you called? How did the call end? Did they connect you to other mental health resources? Please tell me anything you can about what happened when you called a suicide hotline.

I am not suicidal. I often tell people to call suicide hotlines. I just want to have the best understanding of what that means. Please only answer if you have actually called. I just want to understand people's specific experiences.

Yes, I have called it earlier this year when I was inches away from electrocuting myself, and my mother stopped me from doing it. When calling a Suicide Hotline you will be connected to a counselor that will talk to you and ask what is on your mind, and he will make suggestions for what you need to do, immediatley, after ending the call.

I was told to talk to my school counselor, so I did that, and that same day I was removed from school for the day, since suicide is taken as an emergency situation. The counselor talked to my mother and she gave me two options, a counseling service, or a Residential counseling program for two weeks, I chose the regular counseling service, as It would be strange for me to dissapear from school for 2 weeks.

That was my experience.

It seems to me that you're just investigating suicide hotlines and what part they play in American Mental Illness Culture. I hope that is your intention.

But if it's not, I want you to know that you can call a hotline, go to the ER, call 911 or call the police or fire dept. All of these people are trained and ready to respond to this type of emergency. And it is an emergency. Don't ever hesitate to get help. Everyone in your life will thank you for it.

They really help. It is a very valuable service.
I have called only one time and it helped me greatly.
Most people who are sick are afraid to call the police. Some are afraid to tell anyone because they are afraid of being locked away or thown out of their home. I have been so sick a couple times that I drove myself to the police station. As a mentally ill person I don't have a way to repay them for helping me. The only thing I am able to do is sometimes help the people on street who are also ill like myself. Like most people who are mentally ill, I have good days and bad days. I feel if more poeple were educated in ways to help each other all of society would benefit and more money could be made available to prevention and treatment. I am sorry if I don't make much sense because I have Schizophrenia and we have trouble thinking and writing.

I haven't, but only because I got lucky enough that my church leaders care for me. :)
