NO COFFEE!
He wants to do what you do. You drink coffee, he should drink coffee. You put cigarettes in your mouth, he should too! When you drink your coffee in the morning, give him a cup with juice or something in it (grape juice is nice and dark like coffee). When you smoke, give him a fake cigarette or a pen (ink removed) so he can join in (though you shouldn't smoke around him. Maybe just act like you're smoking so he can feel like part of the action and start leaving the butts alone)

Yep coffee is bad for him, as are ciggy butts. They are very curious & he sounds young still so yep he'll get into absolutely everything he can & more than likely it'll be everything he's not allowed to have, LOL little devils.

No a little will not hurt him as long as he didn't suck on it long periods, drink all the coffee & you did manage to...eventually....pry it from his beak, no harm would be done.

In future you might wanaa ask whoever leaves these things laying around to start cleaning up after themselves or be prepared to foot any vet bills from untidyness. Also when taking your AG out you do a quick scan of the house & make there aren't any nasties for him to get into. They're like a toddler, turn your back for 2 seconds & they've found something they can't have.

Weather or not you smoke isn't the issue for the AG, he's gonna get himself into a whole more than just this, that's what they do. The only important issue here is keeping things a little tidier to prevent these things from happening, & MANY parrot owners are smokers, this doesn't mean they smoke inside. Not all parrot owners are thoughtless.

My elcectus & sun conure both insist on trying to drink my coffee too. I also think something like this is, well mum is drinking it so it's gotta be ok for me too!

Good luck

You need to control the environment better for the safety and health of your pet! Coffee is an absolute no no!!! And chocolate has a chemical poisonous to many different animal species. That congo should be able to live a good 50 years plus...if YOU are careful and properly care for your bird. If you are not willing to monitor the environment BEFORE letting your pet out...consider another home for him/her. African grays are very smart birds...among the smartest of the parrots. They will get into everything. NO CIGARETTES! Don't smoke around your bird!!!

We have a 3-yr-old Grey, and yes they ARE curious and jealous. Your parrot not only wanted something new, s/he wanted YOURS. 2 warnings: Caffeine is bad, nicotene even worse, so please don't give him/her coffee and be esp. careful about ciggie butts; also, human mouth germs are reeeaallllyy bad, so personally I don't let our little grey fellow eat or drink after me.

I have a special mug in which I put water (sometimes with a seed or sprout or other safe object floating in it) and let him toss it around while hubby drinks his own coffee. This may or may not work with your little guy but it's worth a try. Good luck!

No he cannot have coffee! He wanted to hold onto ti because he could rip it apart. Keep his beak busy, investigate. They're a curious species that's all. it's cute but can also get them in trouble. Don't smoke around him and keep the butts away from him too. Also give thim other things like foot toys or string with beads on it to chew on to keep his beak busy and out of trouble.

Greys are very smart, and usually they want whatever it is you have. you might want to get him checked out because no coffee is not good for them either....but next time just try and keep it out of his reach.

Coffee and Cigarettes, Alcohol and Avacados can kill your bird! Never let them have them under any circumstances!
