I was Baptized in a Lake today and had a strange experience. I was not really nervous to be submerged although I am not a swimmer. Everything went well until I was brought up out of the water. I couldn't breathe, the Pastor had to push on my stomache and told me to cough, and finally I could breathe again. I felt rather foolish. I didn't have alot of water come out or anything like that. Does any one have any idea what this could mean spiritually? I am so happy I did this and feel closer to God but rather depressed and puzzled as to why this happened. I don't want to have a bad feeling associated with my baptism. Has anyone heard of this happening to anyone else or any opinions on this? Please no wise cracks.

it could be that your emotions were running so high that you just froze up... I sucked in some water during my baptism... came up sputtering.... good for a chuckle... don't be concerned... God has a sense of humor

i'm sorry which you felt perplexed after the discussions with the missionaries. As a mormon myself, i'm happy to respond to your questions. despite the fact that I even have under no circumstances been to all the rooms of the temple, i might desire to think of that i know particularly of the temple. before everything, the flaws that we do interior the temple at the instant are not comparable in any respect to pagaen or satanic worship. There are ordinances that we carry out for ourselfs the 1st time and then for the human beings who under no circumstances had the possibility to flow into the temple and characteristic already surpassed. sure it quite is actual that basically temple worth contributors can go into the temple. we are interviewed by potential of our preisthood holder who has authority (such by using fact the bishop and stake president.) the explanation you at the instant are not waiting to get something out of those that visit the temple is by using fact we are instructed that we are to no longer talk of the sacred issues that go on interior the temple exterior of the temple partitions. you are able to understand that the flaws that go on interior the temple are sacred and not mystery. it is likewise actual that we do baptisms for the lifeless interior the temple and we do get married interior the temple and that marriage seals us to our kin throught eternity whilst quickly as we die if we shop to our covenants made interior the temple. Baptism for the lifeless is as quickly as we take a guy or woman's call that has surpassed on and we are baptized on their behalf ( it quite is not comparable to we baptize lifeless bodies, i presumed that till i requested.). i'm no longer precisely advantageous why we positioned on a different sort of gown interior the temple. it quite is possibly yet another sacred factor that contributors can no longer talk approximately exterior of the temple. you will detect out extra related to the temples once you visit a temple open abode the place you get a excursion and when you are able to ask questions. they are development yet another temple interior the Salt Lake valley. i'm hoping this helps.

It sounds like you were just nervous and perhaps a little excited. I remember my own baptism experience---the river I was baptised in had algae and I ended up with algae hanging out my mouth and up my nose.....it wasn't a sign of anything other than I should have closed my mouth before I went under. Sounds like you just has a similar experience. I'd say just relax and just enjoy having made a profession of faith.

Congratulations on your baptism, Lori.

I've never heard of this happening, but I wouldn't worry about it. You belong to Christ now, and He holds you in His hand.

If I were you, and I wanted some feedback on this, I would talk to the pastor. He may have sensed some spiritual energy or something that you did not. Either way, he can help you. Contact him and make an appointment. I think you'll be glad you did.

i don't think there's any spiritual meaning to this. i think it was just a new experience for you and you reacted with a little fear. i imagine that being submerged in water by another person would be scary and require a lot of trust.

I don't think that it has any spiritual meaning.

You probably just got a little nervous at being under the water and you subconsciously held your breath too long.

you could have just had a 'deeper' experience of what it is like to be buried as Christ... and to be alive again in Him....

or satan could be trying to keep you from feeling the peace at this step of obedience... either way, I am glad things are find and just want to congratulate you on your baptism.....

I don't know. But let me say "welcome to the Kingdom of God"! It almost sounds like you might have become a bit overwhelmed. After all, how many of us are used to being dunked in backwards? Anticipation and excitement, too, might have added to it. I'm sure it was nothing. Other than your "old man" being washed away. katiefish <><

No wise crack - it means that fool nearly drowned you and you are lucky you didn't suffer severe brain damage.

You can drown in less than a tablespoon of water - it's about blocking air passage, not the amount.

"Spiritually" it means nothing - but maybe you might think about the intelligence of an organization that risks lives this way.
