8 weeks of Boot Camp, then usually around 12 weeks of training in your specialty area.

Basic training is 11 weeks. as to leave in a certain amount of yers? are you asking how long is the enlistment? if so it is normall 3 years at a time. it work very simple. YOu go to Basic traing, the go to a ZTraining School, for whatever job (over 220) you have picked andd are generally qualified for, by ASVAB test and other backround skills etc. Schools vary from a few months to some few long ones over a year, most are under 4 months. Then you get orders to where ever they need your job (some are more general jobs, and are at every post, like supply or transportaion), and there you stay normally, until your next enlistment, unless you get out when your 3 years is up, and then your just done, your out. if You re-enlist, you more than likely will go to another post, you could be state side or over sea, (not talking about the war zone). s to the war Zone, that all depends on if they need your Unit, or your specific job, of it's specialized and need ed over there. but less than 10% of the Active army is serving in Iraq at any one time, and most tours are for one year. thats it in a very small nutshell. but it's not complicated.

My MOS did 18 weeks of Basic (boot camp) due to mixing the schooling in with basic.
Most is 8 weeks and then schooling.
Each branch is different and each require a certain amount of years.
I was Army and it was 2 years (stateside), 3 years (states or overseas), 4 years. You can always re-enlist to stay longer.
Also, my first enlistment was 3 years and I got my GI bill.

It all depends on what MOS you are given. You will have basic training for 9 weeks and then after that it all depends on your MOS.

You can enlist for as few as 2 years.

http://www.army.com/enlist/
http://www.goarmy.com/flindex.jsp
But remember you still have to give the military 8 years. That means that if you enlist for 2 years, you owe the military 6 years individual ready reserve service. That means that they, the army, can call you back to active duty at any time during those "6" years of "inactive service". So if you do an enlistment of 4 years, you will have 4 years on IRR.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/agency/army/usar-irr.htm
You can ask to retire at 20 years but doesnt mean that they will approve it.
And according to what rank you are depends on how long you can stay in the army:
PVT-PFC 8yrs
SPC 10yrs
SPC (p) 13YRS
SGT 15yRs
SGT (p) 20yrs
SSG 22yrs
SSG(p) 24 yrs
SFC 24 yrs
SFC (P)26yrs and up
MSG is like 28
CSM 30
P means promotable
\Hope this helps. Good luck

Training depends on the MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) that you choose. Normal boot camp is 9 weeks, and after that the rest of your training is MOS dependent.
Enlistment terms vary also. You can sign up for as many years as you like, but if you sign up for less than the minimum which I believe is 4 years you won't qualify for the GI-Bill, or a sign on bonus.

Basic training takes 8 weeks. If you enlist the tour is for
6 years after which you can leave and become a member of
the Individual Ready Reserve for 6 years.
Or you could stay in for up to 30 years.
