I was just wondering:

If the question at hand is meant to be a discussion based within the confines of a religious belief, why even bother answering the question, let alone with something as far from the objective of the discussion such as: "there is no God", "you need to wake up" or "your beliefs are stupid/made up/ fake/ etc"?

Do you feel the need to "anti-evangelize" or something? Especially since the topic is in the correct category and may not be intended for that "conversion" factor you so dread- some questions are not aimed at forcing you to believe, so why not just leave them be?

Amusing how many hate-filled replies I've garnered. And how odd that I haven't pushed anyone at ALL. Geez folks, realize that I am inquiring to certain people, not to the ones of you who haven't replied in such a fashion.

There are some atheists who have to do something to keep reminding themselves why they are mad at God, hate life or how they are "superior" to the ignorant and unenlightened believers. How else could they fill the emptiness they feel?
Atheists: please try to remember for each rude Christian you have to suffer through there are hundreds polite and loving Christians whom you are offending by calling God such offensive things as Sky Critter, etc. As you want me to respect your belief please be respectful of mine even if you disagree. Happily, I have know some very polite and thoughtful atheists.
God bless.

For the most part I tend to play by the rules. I've learned that just about any position can be supported within scripture. But I have to admit that when it comes to end-times and other such nonsense I tend to take a more reality based approach since the scripture is open ended and biblicists have a hard time recognizing the running joke.

Atheists are consistently answering questions directed to Christians and often particularly rudely insulting us in the approach. And no, because it appears that evidently many atheists spend time right here for the only objective of antagonizing Christians, that doesn't be a faux allegation and as a result, not an un-Christ like element to do. in case you weren't right here to antagonize Christians, you will possibly address questions to different faiths besides.

You might like John Locke's "Letter on Tolerance": http://www.constitution.org/jl/tolerati.htm

It's fascinating that Locke didn't have much use for atheists. I'm not a fan of organized religion, but I'm not an all-out atheist. Locke gets at the heart of your question: Isn't atheism a religion posing as an anti-religion and therefore intolerable?

Anti-evangelize...I like that. I don't think I do that, btw. I usually don't respond to questions meant only for Christians unless I find it untrue or offensive, then I feel I can say anything I want.

I think they're giving you a dose of your own medicine. How does it feel to have someone else's beliefs rammed down your throat when you don't want them? That's how many Atheists feel when Christians feel compelled to pass on the "good news" even when they are told, politely, that they're not interested.

Yes.

Believers need other viewpoints, because other believers will not point out flawed thinking (in most cases, they can't, because their is equally flawed.)

No matter the intent of the questions, ALL believers, by supporting the concept that faith is a virtue, perpetuate ignorance and support terrorism and other "acts of faith." I seize every opportunity I can to disrupt this history of violence.

P.S. It's attitudes like the writer just above that make us feel the need to address all of you.

I will answer for my wife.

I am tired of hearing how all the Christians will go to heaven and I get a front row center seat in the fiery pits of hell for all eternity for my atheism.

Personally, it really is a clash of wills, as neither will accept the other

Why in two paragraphs did you not even give an example? I don't debate in a vacuum. Give me a specific question and I'll tell you why I answered it, if I did, or why I think others answered it.

It's a question that is open to everyone. Besides, some people have respectable opinions. They're not all like "you're stupid" and "I don't wear pants."
