No, just like any breed it is how they are raised and treated.
I raised pitbulls for several years and had them sleeping in the bed with me and one was more spoiled than the small pug we have.
Chows bite more often than pitbulls but a pit bull bite will do more damage because they have an enzyme that will "lock" their jaws up that is what brings on the shaking to release the jaws.
I have always wanted to know why when a child gets stiches from a Chow it does not make the news but when someone gets a scratch from a pitbull it is all over the place.

Absolutely not. I am the proud owner of a seven year old pitbull. He's the best dog I've ever seen. He's gentle yet protective. He adores our two children. When my youngest son got very ill a few years ago he wouldn't leave his side. It's as if he knew and wanted to help. Any dog can be violent. It's just when a pit is it's serious. Little dogs bite more but it's not a big deal.

Your question is a false assumption. Pit Bulls, as a breed, are very loving and loyal dogs that are family oriented and really like to be around their people. Because they are a powerful breed, there are a few people (in comparison to how many own the breed) that sadistically put them to use by pitting them against each other or against wild pigs in a brutal "blood sport" that is illegal. Because of the idiots that brutalize these dogs, the breed is getting an undeserved black eye and being banned in growing numbers.
With any breed of dog there are cases where something goes wrong with the wiring of the brain and the dog loses it. A powerful dog losing it is apt to do more damage, like the Labrador Retrieve that tore the face off the lady in France that got a partial face transplant. First ever.
But you don't see efforts to ban Labrador Retrievers, also good dogs, which score lower than Pit Bulls on temperament tests, as a breed.

No, that is just a rumor like all dogs can be mean, so any pitbull can be mean. Some Pitbull's are really good watch dogs and bark at stragers and look mean, there watching over you. So no, not all Pitbull's are mean.

no, not AT all! Pitbulls are really nice dogs, actually. I know, it sounds weird! But, they are REALLY good with kids. But, those are the pitbulls that haven't been taught to fight. I think that fighting is just PLAN STUPID! So, the answer to your question, is no, pitbulls ARE NOT MEAN PETS TO HAVE! well, unless you are thinking about having a fighting pitbull as a pet.

pitbulls are not mean, they can be taught to be mean! pits are people pleasers they do what ever you want them to do weather it be being nice or mean, they are easy to train that is why they are so easy to be taught to be mean! they dont ask to be anything but loved and cared for. please remember a pitbull can be a wanderful addition to your family and unlike what others will tell you they are not bread to fight and they are very seldome people agressive unless taught to be. I own a pitbull and he dont have a mean bone in his body, please keep an open mind when it comes to pitbulls, you can make any breed mean with the right training.

Not at all. one problem that MAY occur is animal aggresion. The 'pitbull' breeds were genetically bred to be human friendly but animal aggressive so when they faced animals like dogs, badgers, etc. they had a natural tendancy to kill or maim. Some pits may show signs of aggression to other dogs, but quick and consistent training will alter this. but as the others said in short, the dog is a product of its environment.

no, but, I would never, ever recommend the breed to an inexperienced dog handler...just as I would never recommend akitas, rotties, shepherds or the like to those who have little or no experience with big, powerful and usually dominant dogs. Inexperienced and irresponsible owners are what cause MOST of the problems with these type of breeds.
These aren't cutesy dogs...they are dogs who are bred to work and they need a strong owner who the dog can respect and will work for. They need something to do or boredom will cause problems. They need lots of exercise. MOST people are not willing or able to put in the effort that these breeds require.
Oh...and Dave and Jess Mac are highly perceptive and intelligent individuals. (Good to see 2 of you! :D)

Dogs have individual personalities too however pitbulls are instinctively fierce but this can be changed through proper discipline and by shaping his/her temperament. Have you ever heard of classical and operant conditioning? I suggest you research about it. Proper reward, punishment and good interaction always works!
