My husband insists that most guys leave the toilet seat up. If guys should be courteous to ladies by putting the seat down then ladies should be courteous and leave the seat up for guys.

What are your thoughts on this?

I disagree with his philosophy, but what bothers me the most is his opinion that MOST guys leave the seat up. I completely disagree- I think a lot guys put the seat down.

So... your husband is supposed to put the toilet seat down when he's done, right? Does that mean it's an open invitation for the dog to have a drink? Thus, sitting in toilet water, [maybe pp too] with dog drool is your answer to solving the longest running puzzle in history. "Why do men leave the toilet seat up?" What's the difference between sex and peeing? When they're done, nothin' else matters.

The toilet seat debate seems to be of imponderable cosmic proportions. As explained to me by many woman, the problem is using the toilet at night, in semi-darkness, and sitting on the cold porcelain rim (if the seat was left up). But on the other hand, I explain, if the seat is left DOWN, then the man risks peeing on it wheh his stream slackens.

So rather than get into some determination of up or down, why not simply look at the darn thing before you sit (or stand). Move it whatever way you want.

What am I missing here?

While I agree that the argument works both ways, in practice only one rule should be applied or toilet seat anarchy will result. As a guy, I'm more than willing to accept the brownie points such a simple act accrues and consistently put the seat down.

Is it fair? Not really. But the cost/benefit analysis comes out squarely in my favor.

It's a good thought, but if you leave the seat up for the men, they may start leaving it up too instead of leaving it down like they usually do, so I am not going to change the way things are. (My husband leaves the seat down)

My husband generally puts the seat down. I think if the boys out number the girls then they can leave it up, if the girls out number boys leave down. Guest restroom should always have the lid closed. If you can't agree, just keep lid down and then both parties have to raise the seat. This looks nicer anyway.

You really need to find something a little more demanding than worrying about toilet seats
