There are two sides to your question. One - don't try to fix it if it isn't broken. In other words if you are working just fine with XP then you might not want to break things. The other side is that if you run windows then eventually you will have to go to Vista to keep up with the times. I have Vista on my laptop and it's okay, but I am still running into the occasional problem. My XP machine isn't having any problems at all. On my XP machine I'm going to wait until they get some more of the bugs worked out before I upgrade it to Vista.

Well regarding you, you seems to having trouble just like I do. You must wondering or asking yourself,"Do my computer can handle such big data transfer simultaneously? or Can my PC will be slowed down or somehow somewhere some of the components will get toast?" Well the best thing to do is make sure you have the processor which can handle some major tasks simultaneously and the DI MM of yours it is basically recommended at least 512MB-1GB or higher. The HDD in the other hand will be at least double or triple the amount of disk space that required on XP pro or at least 100GB-300GB. Somehow someone do not like the Vista so much because the complexity of it and it was hardly to use. However if some person who wants their PC looks more stylish, Vista is the thing that I will recommend. As for you, my friend if your PC Are use for Gaming purposes Vista Home Basic is the one that i will recommend . One thing to keep in mind was Windows Vista actually was a media centre and in Vista, there are 3 category.
1.Windows Vista Home Basic
2.Windows Vista Businesses and
3.Windows Vista Ultimate
these three product require different kinds of requirement. But if the vista adviser advices you to use Vista ultimate, it is recommends you to install either Home Basic or businesses it is for your own good but it is all depend on the user it self on how to utilize it and which Windows Vista he/she wants to use

Your computer will not be ruined but it might run a little slower because Vista is more demanding than XP. Personally, I think you will be disappointed to find that Vista is not very different from XP.

I think it has an uninstall routine, not sure. if not you can always nuke it and install xp fresh. I'd back up my data whichever way to go.
I was listening to a computer radio show today, and got an interesting tip. When you install vista, and it asks for your product key , leave it blank. it will install anyway and give you 30 days to activate it. That way if you don't like it, you can uninstall it without wasting a $200 product key so you can use it later on another machine.

the only bad thing that could happen to ur PC/laptop if u use Vista on top of your XP is it will make the machine run slower than usual. vista is using too much memory (RAM) coz it has more graphic appearance than XP has. unless you have a big enough RAM in your machine.. lets say.. at least 1gig of RAM...

While I don't profess to be an expert, I think your question would really depend on your computer and it's age, and perhaps the condition of your hard drive.
I would double check with someone that really knows your current Windows XP system, before I do it.
Good luck.
