What does it mean when my parakeet walks back and forth quickly on his perch? He does this when I play piano for it and when I sing and sometimes talk to him.
How long does it take for one parakeet to use one cuttlebone?
What does it mean when my parakeet opens his beak really wide and moves his tongue in and out?
Is it normal for parakeets to puff up when it relaxes and gets ready for bed?

When he walks back and forth on his perch he is most likely anxious or wants out of his cage.

My cockatiels usually don't use up their cuttlebones for at least 3 months, and parakeets are smaller, so maybe 4-5 months for one.

If he opens his beak real wide and his tongue goes in and out, he's probably yawning which means he's tired of course!

And yeah, its completely normal for them to puff up when they're relaxed or getting ready to sleep.

This should really help you out:

My parakeets often preform this behavior when I sing or talk. This is a sign to show they like music and recgonize your voice!

The cuttle bone can be a variable. If your bird enjoys chewing, then your cuttle bone should last at least 3-4 weeks, but if he does not, then it will certaintly last longer.

When your parakeet puffs up before relaxing, it is just a way of getting warm or some other kind of pleasure. It is nothing to worry about. It's natural.

As everyone else has said he's excited when going back & forth like this. It's a happy mood & nothing to worry about.

The cuttle bone stay in the cage for a good couple of years! They don't go off & only need to be removed if they get dirty from the bird or cage. Budgies will only eat cuttle bone when they need it so it can last years in the cage before replacing a new one. Mine don't actually last that long, A couple of months at the least for really big bones. My parrots love to shred them for fun!

The puffing when relaxing, napping & ready for bed is completely normal.

When he goes back and forth on the perch he's jsut excited! it's his way of going "Wohoo!" or showing you that that makes him excited. I don't know about a cuttlebone my guess it about 2 weeks or so. But it really depends on how much calcium the bird is recieving through its diet. It is totally normal for a bird to puff up adn then relax before bed, it's like a stretch we do before going to bed. Just getting all relaxed, setting the mood to get rady to go to sleep. Sometimes birds open their beaks they are just yawning, or sometimes when they are intimidated. Sorry i couldn't be more for sure on that one.

My parakeet loves to dance on her perch when we get home or when she is spoken to...we call it dancing but i'm sure she is excited. A parakeet will soil a cuttle bone way before it uses one up. We change ours every couple of months. A cuttle bone has a soft side, which should face inside the cage, and a harder side which should face away from the cage. My parakeet does yawn like you describe and she fluffs up when she feels safe and comfortable.

Back and forth quickly on the perch, your bird is excited.Birds vary with cuttle bone, some attack it more than others. If a bird is not interested in the cuttle bone, sometimes changing the position of the bone does the trick. Your bird is yawning when opening his mouth wide.
Yes its perfectly normal for birds to "fluff up" when retiring.

He runs back and forth because he is excited by something--very normal.
Cuttlebone will depend on the individual--I've had some birds go through them very quickly, others last for years.
He is yawning--a common thing to see.
Yes, they get puffy at night when they are sleepy.

he goes back and forth out of excitement, you should change the cuttlebone if it gets dirty, the puffing is normal, and as far as the tongue thing it is very sensitive like your fingertip and they explore the world with it

He is looking for something to throw at you to stop your f****** singing. The tongue movement is also aimed at telling you how much he hates your company and he just can't find words to sum it all up. He does none of this when you are out. Let him go , the poor b*stard.!!
