It's a good idea to give the whole car a visual inspection when you do any scheduled service. Like other folks have mentioned there is a standard check list that includes the transmission fluid and brake fluid and coolanf and power steering fluid levels as well as tire pressure.

A good service interval for the cooling system, transmission, power steering and air filter and brake inspection and blled the brakes is every two years or as needed depending on use and miles driven per year. Service intervals are based on hors of operation and not mileage but since they can't guess where and how every car is driven they give the 3,000 mile as an average number of "X" hours of operation.

I only drive about 5,000 miles a year city\highway so my two cars will not see an oil change every year. City driving equals a lot of running time but few miles per hour of run time.

Good Luck!

check the air filter, tire pressure, power steering and transmision fluid, make sure wiper blades are ok, brake fluid is full, if it's not at the mark it's supposed to be at, time to check the brakes.
