Please make sure you address the biosphere not being a closed system and how life could exist but evolution not proceed.

Dãh. Its because the second law of thermodynamics state that the entropy on a closed system can only increase!

I give the same excuse to my mom when she asks me to clean up my room. I go like: "I cant clean up my room mom, its physically impossible given the second law of thermodynamics". And my mom answers something like:" Don't be silly boy! Your bedroom is NOT a closed system and you can inject more energy into it and increase the level of organization". And I go like:" My bedroom is SOOOOOO a closed system".... anyway we can go on for hours me and my mom

I saw a great answer to this on "fundies say the darndest things"

"One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it."

(Maybe it's a troll, but either way they've nailed the question)

Oh, and LOL, Emiliano. I've got a desk like that!

And Novangelis, I've always wondered why the second law could refute evolution but not at the same time refute the possibility of a fully developed human or border collie other organism developing from a single cell (which embryology tells us each of us has). Puzzling, huh?

The second law of thermodynamics does not disprove evolution. It refers to closed systems which is obviously not the case in the process of evolution on our planet. It is perfectly within what we might expect for life to become more complex and ordered but in the much larger system of the universe entropy increases. There is a good short answer on "Ask an astronomer" . A very cool site where the public can ask astronomers and physicists questions.

It doesn't. The second law of thermodynamics only applies to closed systems. The Earth is not a closed system.

If entropy prevented evolution from occurring then it would prevent humans form developing form a single cell into our adult bodies.

no it's not the changes that postpone or thwart entropy for the survival of the species until the final collapse of system that is the mainstay of evolution but mostly the environmental conditions that really don't have anything to do with entropy

It doesn't... People who THINK they know something about science but would prefer to believe in magic made that one up so they could sound smart and possibly win over others that know just as much (and by much i mean little) about science as they do.

Careful, according to some creationists it is impossible to wash your dishes since that would work against localized entropy.

it doesn't

people seem to think that sun just looks pretty and doesn't provide any energy to earth

that and they have no clue how energy transfer/biology works.

bogus argument... evolution is a fact.
