Do you really know him? What exactly is loving someone. I believe you cannot love someone without knowing him. To know God is to love him. Read the Bible daily and pray. Getting to know God will require a two way communication. He communicates through the Bible.
Think about life. You love the people you spend time with. You spend time with the peole you love. It works the same way with God.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was raised in a strict Christian family that attended church everytime the doors were opened and prayed seemed like all day everyday. I got older and was baptized. I don't think that I ever felt a true connection. The people in my church were the type that never really took no for an answer. they always try to force you to do things. However, no matter how much I would reach out and try to feel something I couldn't, there was just nothing there. I started feeling like a hypocrite because I would go through the motions but never felt anything or get anything out of it. I felt like that was just as much a sin as anything else. Ultimately, I ended up leaving the church all together, it's been over 3 years now. I realized that I can't do something that don't feel in my heart and for some reason I don't feel anything. I think that I should be a Christian for the simple fact that my family are all Christian and I should fall in line but I guess I'm the black sheep. My family says it's my choice.
I haven't given up on the faith completely. I just want something to either push all the way back into the religion or totally push me away. I don't want to sit on the fence trying to decide which way I should go and end up making the wrong decision and bailing out again.

So know that you're not alone....

You probably want to be a christian because you feel the need to satisfy your inner being, which longs for satisfaction, peace and eternal rest.
Read 2 Chronicles 7:14.
You can't love him, unless you know him, and to know him, you need to experiment his ways. The bible says that God is holy. "Holy, holy, holy." We must be holy.
Eclessiates states that this is the all of man, "Fear the Lord, and retain his commandments, because this is the all of man." Live by his living word, and you shall know him.
God is the only God of love, HE IS LOVE. (1 John 4:8)
He is the very essence of love. When you talk about love, you talk about God's embrace around his creation. from anything as big as whale to as small as an ant, to the very depth of the hearts of the special creation created at his own image to the immense suffering on that cross two thousand years ago.

If you want to know how to love him, pray to the Father, fear him and follow his commandments, and you shall come the wisdom of God's love for you and me.

Please don't let other people confuse you in telling you that God doesn't exist, becasue he does, and we see him all over the place. You hear about those small miracles that happen to people? That just by the slightest margin they did not crash into what could have been the tragedy of their lives. Well, how do animals, the ones we run off from their original habitats by building houses, survive with scarce resources and space? Its God's love, and we have more than enough reasons why to love God.

God Bless you and your spiritual life.

Loving the Lord is no more about feelings than a marriage is....it is about commitment. It isn't "I love you because..." but "I love you regardless." Feelings come and go...but true love stays. You love the Lord with no less than what you give your best friend or spouse....."time." It takes time to build a relationship and a determination to not quit when you don't feel any connection. It takes "time" as a child of God to grow in your faith. A Christian must "remain" to receive the blessing of His presence and eternal life. Loving the Lord is so easy and fufilling because He reaches down and constantly loves us back. The Lord loves you with an inmeasurable love, sweetheart. If you get in His Word and line your heart up with His you will be given such a peace in your heart always that will be greater than any of the devil's attempts at getting you to feel disconnected. Stomp on that serpents head! He is a liar and the father of all liars! Scripture says that when we become a Christian, the devil is "under our feet." Meaning, beat him up with the Word of God and I promise he will turn-tail and flee!

You will know when its time. You will get this feeling inside and when you do that is when you will need to pray and tell him what you have us. Be sincere and he will hear your prayer. Ask him to save you from your sins and he will. Pray daily and read your bible and you will began to understand his word. Practice living your life for god. Find a Church to go to and be around Christians and it will help you to better live a christian life. You will love him when you understand that he gave his son so that you could be saved and go to heaven. you will give your life to god and start depending on him. When you feel upset or sad all you will have to do is pray and he will make you feel so much better. There are those of course who don't believe therefore they don't get to feel this. You must believe and have faith. Before you know it you will be praying all the time..all thru the day. You really will come to depend on him and you will feel as tho a burden has been lifted!! If not already do start going to church and talk with the preacher or pastor of the church.

Honestly, I would suggest trying to experience God, and not God through the filter of any religion. Think about it this way...if there is a God (which I believe there is) and you try to experience him a certain way, but are unable to, perhaps it is not the way that God wants you to experience him. When you find a way that fits and feels right to you, then you can begin to have a relationship with God, learn more about God, and draw closer to God. But you can't fit a square in the same-sized circular hole. Some are called to know God through Christianity. Others through Islam. Others through science, though they do not know or acknowledge the source. Open your mind to God and let him lead you in the direction you should go to know him.

Blessings in the Light of Christ!

Well first, sit down and pray for that answer, then next, pick up the bible each day and try to read a little bit. Pray for help to understand it.
See , you cannot love some one you do not know, but a study of the bible will teach you how to get to know GOD Almighty.
Then you can know him, A good start is the Bible book of First John AKA 1John : verse Chapter 4, verse 16...GOD IS LOVE!!!!!!!!
No matter how weird it all sounds at first, read a little of your bible daily, and pray for direction

Hi Susie
Wow lots of varied answers. All I can tell you is that I know of no other source than the Word of God to determine what is true and what is not. Even what many people say about the Word varies so you need to search it diligently yourself. In it Jesus is revealed as the only way to God. He also is a lot more "exclusive" than most say. He Himself says "no one can come to Me unless the Father draws Him". So according to Him not just anyone can truly come to Him, yet He says that anyone who does He will not cast out. He also warns that there will be many "Christs" and to watch out for false Prophets who say they are from God and that they come out of the church itself often so if your serious you need to search the scriptures because as they themselves say they are able to "make one wise unto salvation". Also the reason I responded to you is because of what you asked. Most only want to be saved from punishment or some other thing but you asked to know God and love Him. That is usually a sincere desire. May God reveal Himself to you in Christ Jesus, the Lord.

It's not something you can force. Have you considered the possibility that Christianity -- or at least the denomination you've been trying -- is not the right path to God for you?

You might find the Belief-O-Matic quiz over at Beliefnet.com helpful:

It's fun, and it matches you up with a wide variety of religions and philosophies based on your answers, with write-ups for each one. The results can be very surprising.

Best of luck to you on your path.

It don't matter what religion you are, just what's in your heart.

Pray everyday, show God that you are always there by his side no matter what happens to you..... and don't ever give up.
God will come to you like he did to me, his presence, you will know for sure it's him, and he most likely would say something to you, usually telepathically to you. God is usually always there by your side, you may not realize it at first. As I now reflect, I can see all the times he was there for me, even when I wrong.
