It depends, what it was... and how long the poo was outside.
Never-the-less, It would be a good idea to take a fresh sample in to your vet so that they can do a fecal exam and let you know if he has parasites and then dispense the right medication.
Good luck!

Maybe not maggots so much, but worms... yes. Since you're not sure of what it is/type, I would recommend taking him to the vet (ask if they want a stool sample), and they will tell you what needs to be done to get rid of the worms.
Just as an added note, worms can do horrible things to a dog's digestive system if had for long enough and depending on the type... so, definitely needs to be taken care of.

It is possible that your dog has worms. It does depend on how long the stool was in the yard, if was in the yard awhile it is possible that it is maggots. take a sample of the stool to your vet and have it checked out.

Sounds like your dog might have tape worms. Tape worms are quite large but come apart in little sections that in excrement could resemble maggots. You will need to take your dog to the vet to be dewormed as I don't think de-wormer that treats tape worms is available over the counter anymore.

I'd say it's more than possible. It's highly likely. It sounds as though your dog has worms, and if you can see them in his exreatment then he's had them for a long while. Take him to the vet and have him de-wormed and try to be a responsible pet owner and keep your dogs worming up to date.

We just ran into this same problem. If the stool was outside for a good period of time and the little wormy thing slooked like maggots, they probably got to it after the fact. Tape worms look more like spaghetti- they are not short and maggot like.

They may be intestinal worms. There is medication to get rid of them. They are much smaller than maggots. They can cause distress in your dog, so in my opinion, I woukl take him to the vet for a check-up.

It sounds to me as though your dog has worms. It's not that big of a deal really. It would be a good idea to bring him to a vet and get some medicine to get rid of them quick because there is a chance that they can get worse. And also, another sign of it being worms is if he is loosing weight at all and loosing appetite. The safe thing to do would definitly be to bring him to a vet. Good Luck:) !
