Hitler's ill health in 1943 seemed to change much of his thought process on the war. What do you think would have happened if Rommel had become fuhrer of the Third Reich in a military coup?

If Rommel had succeeded Hitler. I think he would have ended the war.

Rommel would have been a better military leader but don't forget that Hitler had great charisma and the gift of rallying people behind his causes. Rommel couldn't have done that as well and the Germans might have stopped beleiving in the cause and the war may have come to a screeching hault.

As for blankalust: shut up. The holocaust did happen which is a lot more than 10% of the truth about the Nazi's and we are much better off without the Nazis. Go to Afghanistan.

the war would have come to an end, and with Germany very strong still at that time, they could hammer out terms wit hthe US and Britian and Russia and more than likely have kept much of there captured lands, or at least have control ove them, like russia did with eastern Europe for years. rommel, was a German Soldier, not a Nazi Politician, and he was a very noble in thought and strong in actions man, ZGermany would not have rolled over, nor would they have apologized, yet I believe they would slowly conceed terrritirial powers and He would have started Peace overtures soon after coming to power.

well, Rommel was (and still is) considered a gentleman and an officer. He has been quoted numerous times disagreeing with Hitler's vendetta against the Jews. He also gave quarter to captured enemy soldiers.

If he succeeded him, I imagine the war would've come to a much quicker, less brutal end.

...Japan would still have been a mess though

He would have ended the war and probably ordered the stoppage of the genocide against the Jews.

Rommel was fighting for Germany, not for Hitler or his crazy ideals. Rommel was very intelligent and practical. He even tried to kill Hitler.

He's ok in my book, even though he was our opponent.
I consider him an opponent, not an enemy. Hitler was the enemy.

We would all be speaking german, Hitler was plain insane and didnt take the wise advice of his generals if Rommel was the new furher he would take advice and make wise decisions on his own which would have gave the allies a run for their money.

Very likely, Germany would have consolidated their hold over central Europe, possibly northern Africa.

The fall of Britain would have occurred in the 1950s or 1960s, and Russia would have been left alone until it could be attacked by the entire German army on the east, and the entire Japanese army on the west.

The war would have been over. Rommel was a pragmatist and not a fool.
