Should I leave it plain? Or the varnish is not longer inflammable when it's dry?

Ok, I would decorate it , but not with varnish. Clay diyas are temporary and not the permanent ones(brass). Paint it with vegtables dyes. Be careful

Diyas made of Clay will not be good and when you put oil it will try to disolve and become sticky and all. The clay should be cooked then only it will hold oil and long lost. Better buy readymade teracotta diya and used. You can varnish it or paint it with designes. You need not be afraid of fire and it will work alright. Varnish once diried there is no possibility of inflammable when dried.-
