I don't think big pectorals (hurts when running) or round shoulders (bad posture) really help a soldier. I am sure there's many better ways to make you stronger mentally and phisically.

I'm a BCT drop out, i left in my 8 week because it wasn't for me. But I've yet to stop push ups. Even up to my 5month being pregnant. It makes you mentally physically stronger. You build so much strength and endurance. So, instead of putting down our soldiers that you doing a job you wont do, start doing push ups. You might build some character :-D

Yes. It breaks down an individual's inclination to resist authority's orders along with other things such as eating square meals, waking up and going to bed at a certain time, chores, marching, etc.

These things don't make you a better killing machine, they just inhibit individuals from making their own choices and only to follow their orders during crunch time and not question their authority.

I have no idea. I really don't understand a lot of things the military makes us do. I've learned just to shut up and do it.

Maybe that's what push ups are for. It doesn't matter why you have to do em or why you have to wear a freakin reflective belt. You just say what-the-f*ck ever and just do it.

However, some of the guys in my flight really needed to do some push ups. Looks like they haven't lifted anything over 20lbs in their life.

I'm not an expert on boot camp or military, but I'm pretty sure the pushups are just used to build character. Sometimes as punishment, but all in all, they DO help you physically too.
