Is it OK to say something to a selfish moron at the supermarket who wheels their trolley (um, maybe cart in the U.S.?) into the 10 items or less lane when they CLEARLY have WAY more than 10 items?

I'm not talking about people who have 12 or 15 items here, I'm talking about the obviously numerically illiterate who wheel on in with the full trolley with the weekly shop & expect that no one will care!

And if the cashier doesn't say anything & just starts blindly scanning can I say something to him/her along the lines of "Oh I see there are TWO people here today who can't count"?

It drives me insane! I hate the supermarket enough without having to wait 20 minutes to buy a carton of milk & a packet of gum because other people are all about themselves!

P.S. Wouldn't it be cool if the cashier said "Hi there, and which 10 items are you planning on buying today?" to them?

I would think it would be OK to say something - it might be best not to start out with "selfish moron.."

It depends upon the store (in the U.S.) whether the cashiers are instructed to say something or to just ring up the purchases without comment. I am sure there are many cashiers who would love to say something.

Yes, I love the idea of "Which 10 items were you plan on purchasing today?" I will give that line to my favorite cashier at the market. She will love it and probably use it.

I fully agree it is MADDENING.

I wonder whether the cashier's supervisors allow them to refuse customers with lots of items in their carts in their express lanes? Might make those selfish morons take their business to another store.

My kid is a cashier, and I am going to ask her how her supervisor feels about this.

It truly bothers me when I see this happening. I do count my own items in the cart, and go to a regular line if I am over the posted limits. Now and then an express cashier will call me over to her line anyways. I will then go over there, if there isn't a big line of people waiting.

I totally agree. I think the cash register should stop after the 10 or 12 items and make them leave the rest in the cart!
But what I hate even more is when the fast lane or express lane cashier shouldn't be assigned to anything, (((speedy)))!

Yes, this is very annoying and inconsiderate. I really don't understand how some people can do it. I feel really bad if I have 11 items in the express lane so how can some people go in with 20?

Some people, I swear...

At a local supermarket, I have seen people with a cartload of items separate them into 10 item transactions! So, instead of the person's crap getting rung up once, she has 2 or 3 transactions, which really slows the line. I don't say anthing, but let me tell you, I give them a "death glare"!!!

ask them if they noticed the sign.

many, many moons ago, i worked on checkout. what used to annoy me is when people who couldn't speak english well would come through with a trolley load through my express lane and would start to load up and pretend they couldn't understand what i was referring to when i pointed at the sign. BUT, they would ALWAYS know when something was 2 cents different to the advertised price....
