I went to church today...I am someone who believes God has wronged him....is anyone ever justified in this? Was Job....why did he kill his family...and ruin him?
Today, the Pastor said that if people didn't make a certain public gesture to show that God had been good t them...that the ground was liable to open up and swallow them...what do you think of this....sometimes...I think things would be better for me if it did.

I don't believe anyone is justified in thinking that God has wronged them. God puts us through tests and trials to strengthen us. If things were always easy and everything always went our way we would never grow.
In Romans 8:18 Paul says "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
Romans 8:28 says "and we know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
God did ruin Job. It was quite the opposite really. Did God allow Satan to tempt him and kill his family? Yes. God did it for Job's own good. Job 1:1 starts by defining Job as a blameless and upright man who feared God and shunned evil. The story of Job is a great reference to trials and why God puts Christians through them. Job was never angry or bitter through all the horrible things that happened to him. Read Job 2:9-10. Job's wife told him to curse God and die. Job's reply is absolutely awesome. He said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Job trusted God and maintained his integrity through difficult circumstances. What a great example to believers.
As for what your Pastor said, I can't really address that. I don't know what "public gesture" he was referring to. I don't know his heart and I don't know everything he said.

I don't believe God purposely wrongs anyone. To believe that is just putting a wall between you and God. I can't tell you why some of the things that happen to us happen, but there must be a reason. If we knew all the reasons, we would be God! My parents both died which was horrible. Was that God doing a wrong to me? I don't believe so, but some would.

What was the "certain public gesture" the Pastor wanted? If it was a donation, then I think you have one answer. If it was to pray and tell God you love Him and you want Him in your life, then you have another answer.

I don't think the Pastor meant the ground would literally open up and swallow you. I think He meant that life would engulf you with constant and increasing unhappiness and frustration...eventually overwhelming you.

Regardless of all this, I think you need to pray and get back in touch with Christ. See where the Holy Spirit leads you. What do you have to lose?

Does your Pastor actually believe that God wrongs anyone? Yes, He gave Satan permission to do what he did to Job, however, that does not mean that God wants to harm you- you do realize that God restored Job more hundred fold what he lost. What type of sign does your pastor think the people need to do? Very strange- no where in scripture does it say that we need to do that, and if we did- then we where would the praise for God be, when life does not seem to be treating you well. I have a chronic illness that causes pain 24/7- however I choose to praise Him anyway- God is my refuge, strength, savior and Lord no matter if "good" things are happening to me in the outward sense or not. Ask your pastor what he meant by that statement- I would be interested.

Be careful when casting blame on God. Did He really wrong you or did you wrong yourself? I'm not saying this to insult you; I'm trying to make you think of the truth of the matter. (I'm trying to help you another words.)

Did you make a bad decision somewhere or did someone make a bad decision that affected you? Is the feeling of being 'wronged' stem from that?

Job lost his family and material wealth because God wanted to test him. It was through this test that Job was able to grow closer to God and to rely on Him fully.

As to the pastor's comment about the 'gesture', he might have been trying to make a joke. Pastors do that from time to time to keep things moving in their sermons - also to snatch people's attentions. Sometimes jokes work, sometimes they don't.

God didn't do it to Job, satan did (Job 1 )

God's part was to restore 2 times what Job had lost.

See the very end of the book, Job's family still didn't get it and blamed God for what happened. They did'nt have the book of Job to read and understand that God answered Job's question on why this happened to him; Job had religious pride.

Find a Bible believeing Church that will teach you to read the Bible for yourself and go to God for your answers.

I think your pastor needs a Gospel Lesson. The Bible says How beautiful on the Mountains are the feet of them that preach good news. Conviction is the work of the Holy Spirit.

First off, I'm sorry you're so discouraged.....I'm mixed up how to answer your situation, your question refers to Job; my heart tells me you need the comfort of Psalms.
I'll stick to Job; you mentioned it. But I have to start in Hebrews to lay a foundation:
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
This is personal; I believe the Faith lessons from Job are as follows:
1) Faith that Satan will tempt us to deny God
2) Faith that we should worship God in good times and bad.
3) Faith that Satan can only do what God lets him.
4) Job had Faith in God.
5) God had Faith in Job.
6) Faith that we will be blessed serving God.
Other than that, when I get depressed, I turn to Psalms. Find one that speaks to you. Pray about it. God Bless.

I'm not sure your pastor was right . . . but you're also not right in feeling that God has wronged you. God does not owe us anything. We have all sinned, and so we all deserve death and punishment in hell - nothing more. Everything beyond that - life, health, family, friends, etc is blessing that we don't deserve.

GI,
I believe you need to find the LORD'S CHURCH and your "preacher" definitely is not preaching GOD'S WORD. I doubt that GOD has "wronged you". satan is the one who causes those things to happen. We have such a problem because of Adam and Eve's sin in following satan in the first place. I would be glad to assist you in finding a True Church in your area. Have a wonderful evening and a glorious week!
Thanks,
Eds

i dont blame God when im having a hard time. no one is ever justified blaming God. scripture says "how can the creation question the creator" as far as Job in the story you would have seen it was satan that took from him NOT God. i talk of Gods goodness not from a ground opening up but from the greatfulness in me for him helping me overcome my storms. its hard for me to keep my mouth shut bout his grace

Job knew where true joy came from. For him, not his family, health, possessions, nor anything on this earth was as important to Job as God's love. So it should be true today for us Christians. EVERYTHING else in life will grow old, fade, be swept away, break, or die. But those who have their hope in the Lord as the One source of true joy don't feel wronged when bad things happen to them, because we don't have our hope and joy invested in earthly things.
