I am leaving for USAF basic training in 2 weeks and was wonder what is the best to take. I know i am allowed one bag to take, but should it be a duffle bag or a luggage bag with wheels that you normally would take when traveling?

Any other tips on basic training would help!!

Thank You!

Very little, they will give you a new wardrobe and a Bag to carry it in!~!

As little as possible. Take only one change of cloths and a rain coat. Take a wallet with only a driver's license in it, and no more than $50 in small bills. If they offer you a pay advance, turn it down. That starts a cycle of indebtedness that you will never break. In 2 weeks it will still be high summer in San Antonio. This has been the wettest summer on record in Texas, so the weather has been very muggy. I know I live in Austin which is 80 miles north. My wife was born and raised in San Antonio. Also, do not carry anything in your pockets. Leave your cell phone, comb, pocket knife, change, keys at home. Almost everything you take for granted and use on a daily basis in considered "contraband".
As for sucess in Basic, keep your chin up and rember that the Military is all the same 80% !@#$%^& and 20% real. The purpose of any military school is to piss you off and make you quit. So do not buy in. Get what you can out of it. Once you get out of Basic and Tech school pay attention to your NCO's they have a lot to teach you about, well a lot. Good luck dude...every NCO supports every other NCO.

I can't speak for AF basic training, but I can tell about my Army basic training. If your bag had wheels, you had to carry it! no using wheels! I'd bring a small duffel bag, with a shoulder strap, or the handles are big enough to wear like pack straps. Oh the memories of bear hugging a full, freshly issued duffel bag, and my personal duffel on my side, running laps around the barracks building, in the 100+ missouri summer day :D

Oh, and for another tip, never call a Sergeant sir, unless you like doing push-ups :D Except for the Marine Corps, of course.

Just take a duffle with a change of clothes, tooth brush, tooth paste, ect. You don't have to worry about leaving your cell at home. They take all your presonal belongings and the stay in a room with everybody elses stuff until you graduate. I would wear something comfortable and not too flashy for when you get there. If you smoke you better enjoy them now. I went to AF basic in 03 and I had my last cigarette when I landed in San Antonio. Of course I smoked on my town pass at the end of basic though. Just be ready to do a lot of push-ups and running. AF basic is a piece of cake. You won't really get into shape until you get to tech school.

I dont' know much about Air Force Basic Training, execpt that it is the shortest and easiest of all of them. As for luggage, take as little as possible. Your first day, if it is ANYTHING like Marine Corps Boot Camp (I'm sure issue is at least) you will get all new clothes from running shoes to underwear, along with uniforms.

You won't need anything of your own until after your little 6 weeks of summer vacation are over.

You might want to bring a bathing suit for lounging next to the pool once your training day is over (I hear it can go as late as 1700 (5pm for you Air Force types)). - note, I'm KIDDING for all you airmen who will now explain how Basic Training really is hard, and it's not fair that the rest of the services tease you.

I can tell you that the USAF might make you stand around with your bag for quite a while, so take something you're fine with holding for an extended period of time.
I know that, for example, my friend only brought with her a single backpack upon the recommendation of her mother, a USAF recruiter who, at her own BMT, had taken a three piece luggage set & had to lug it about.
So yeah, it's really up to you.

A gym bag at best. Probably two changes of clothing and personal hygiene items. After you get outfitted with your uniform they will take away your personal belongings and they will be locked up until it is time for you to move on.
PS. Your clothes may not fit the same.

I assume you are going to Lackland Air Force Base. Take a toothbrush, deoderant, toothpaste and nothing else. You are in for a real treat. Shots!
They get you from both sides. I only saw 2 guys pass out. If you are in good shape nothing to worry about. Air Force Basics is like a walk in the park. If your overweight or just not physical then you will wash out. I had 2 guys wash out in my squad.

none. you will prob stay at a hotel one night befor you go into the base so you can bring a clean pair of boxers/sox but as far as clothes go thats the most i would bring. Do bring, razor, shaving cream, soap(and case) tooth brush and case,Qtips so on and so forth. Anything that you think would be fun to bring, dont, thay will take it. as far as the bag it dosent matter, something that you feel comfterble carrying. Have fun, learn allot and PAY ATTENTION!

Just a small bag. All you'll need is a change or two of clothes and your personal items.
Don;'t go overboard.
Luggage with wheels or a duffel bag, no. Don't.

The clothes on your back. A sweat shirt. Vaseline for your soon to be blistered feet(reduces friction for the next day). Stamps, paper, envelopes, pens. Important addresses, and phone numbers. That's it.
