I want to renew our vows for our 5 yr but i want an all out platinum wedding big dress & hair. I didnt get to have a big wedding because we where 18 and as you could imagine we didnt have very much support. Now 3 and a half happy years later i want to plan an all out Wedding I have already started planning and buying for this wedding. but someone put the thought into my head is it appropriate. we have really good jobs so we ar paying out by ourselves over 200K into this wedding. not at one time, im not crazy but atleast that much all together. is a wedding this big appropriate to renew vows?

You can only have one wedding. You got married already and you can't go back. Renewing your vows on your 10th, 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in front of a few family members and friends and having a reception is one thing. Having a lavish wedding to make up for something you missed is not okay. People who adopt children don't go back and reenact a birth because they missed it. Spend the money on another honeymoon or a newer, bigger diamond. Not on a wedding where people need to pretend like you aren't already married and bring you gift.

Wanting to do a vow renewal and have a great anniversary party afterwards that is styled pretty freaking close to a reception.....perfectly appropriate.

Registering for gifts, expecting showers and bachelor/bachelorette parties.....not appropriate.

You can give yourselves another shot and have your dream wedding this time celebrating your commitment you just can't treat it like you are going 'round for the first time.

IMO spending 200K on a "wedding" is the stupidest thing. I mean really. Spend 150K of that on a nice house and use the other 50K to still be able to have a really extravagant blow out in it.

There is nothing wrong with having a vow renewal, however it is NOT "another wedding" - it's just a simple ceremony, for which you just wear dress clothes, not wedding finery. It can be at a church or another location for the ceremony. Later, you would have family and close friends to your home for a dinner, and a bit of an anniversary party. Usually it's done at the 25th anniversary - but sometimes at the 10th.
You are already married, whatever the circumstances were!

I think you shouldn't be too surprised if you find a bit of opposition there. Not too many women would appreciate their husbands wanting to do something romantic like re-new their vows only so they can sleep with other people. Kinda puts a damper on the gesture. Then again, each to their own! She might be thinking the same thing but doesn't know how to approach the topic with you! You know your wife better than anyone so only you can be the judge of that. Just beware that if she doesn't go for the idea then you are going to have major sucking up to do to get back in her good books.

Sure go for it: My husband and I are planning to renew our vows in november after 10 yrs of marriage and it is a much smaller affair since we had a big bash the first time around but since u had the opposite and can afford to do it go for it and give yourself the wedding u always wanted. congrats and good luck.

It is not appropriate to have this type of a renewal ceremony. A renewal ceremony is not a re-do for your wedding. Most people will probably consider this a rather tacky waste of money.
