I dont see why she couldnt wear yellow. she shouold be able to wear whatever she wants....it has nothing to do with your MIL and is really none of her business. if you like the dress and thinks she looks nice in it then there should be no problem. my mom wore navy blue to my wedding and my MIL wore black...they were both comfortable and happy so I couldnt have cared less about what they wore.

No offense, but this is not up to your mother-in-law. As long as both you and your mom are happy then I don't really feel like nothing else matters. I had a similar problem while getting ready for my wedding and then I realized that I was going to do what made me & fiance' happy - because in my opinion you two are the ones that matter. So in a shorter response to your question, your mother can wear whatever color dress makes you both happy. My wedding was also black & white and people wore lots of different colors to it. At the same time, your mother in law can wear whatever color she chooses.

I think this sounds really, really pretty.

My wedding colors were black and ivory, and if my stepmother would have wanted to wear yellow, I would have told her GO FOR IT. She ended up wearing a dress that was already in her closet-it was a Jones of New York black dress with gold and ivory flowers (very, very pretty) and she looked awesome.

What is the reason your mother-in-law objects? Does she realize that she doesn´t have to wear the same color as your Mom?

Yellow is fine as long as you are OK with it. The only rule I have heard about the moms is obviously don't wear white. But also that the mother of the bride gets to pick her color first. Me and my mother did not care, but my mother in law insisted. She also did not want to be in the same color as my mom.

I agree that it is up to you, and since you are having a black and white wedding, yellow is not going to clash so i really don't see the problem. I say let your mom wear what she wants. It will all be beautiful!! Good luck!

This is just the beginning. If you let your mother in law tell you what people can or can't wear to your wedding she will walk all over you for the rest of her life. Nip it in the bud now. It is NOT HER WEDDING.

This site says:
"According to tradition, the mother of the bride sets the tone for family attire. She chooses her dress first, followed by the mother of the groom. Typically, the mothers coordinate the lengths of their gowns; if the mother of the bride wears a short gown, then the mother of the groom also wears a short dress. The color of each ensemble should complement the bridal party and, of course, be a color - not white."

So tell mother-in-law that you are going with tradition, and your mom gets to pick first.

Good luck to you. If mother-in-law gets too bad, make a joke of it and laugh it off. Tell her, "You know in the old days, mothers-in-law were supposed to wear beige and keep their mouths shut." =)

Your mother's dress has nothing to do with your future MIL. And plus, she's not buying it. Tell your mom to get whatever she wants and have a ball wearing it.

she can wear what she wants.. but personally if you were having a black and white wedding i wouldn't and would rather stick to more neutral tones.. however this completely depends on the shade of yellow.......it'll be fine

Your mom can wear anything she wants and that you approve of. The fact that your future MIL would even allow her two cents about it to be known shows you might have a heck of a lot of problems with her coming in the future.
