Churches that are religious--not Christian. Why, because they base everything on humanism.

When we sit in a church we are forced to be quiet and look 'within' while we pray. If you feel darkness and emptiness- that is likely a reflection of what you feel inside.
If you aren't a member of the church, you will may feel like a stranger, an outsider. Many congregations are filled with warm welcoming people though. Fortunately mine is that way. It's just the right size where everyone knows each other and welcomes all who come. Maybe you shouldn't be so closed minded about churches. If you keep an open mind and try different ones you may find one that suits you.

I am not sure where you live but I do not experience that at all unless I am feeling dark and empty myself. The church God speaks of is not a building. It is within you. There are groups of people who have hidden behind religion...oh, yes, we have been saved and are holy ones...you need to find a church where a living God reigns in the people.

That wasn't at all my experience this morning at Christ's United Lutheran Church, Ashland, PA. Plenty of children, a friendly congregation, and it seemed like most stayed for the coffee hour afterward. If you wanted to spoil your appetite for lunch, that was the place to be. When was the last time you were at a church--I mean honestly, not merely looking to criticize?

As for those who claim it is in the Catholic Church I must disagree. It was finally the Catholic Church that I felt the REAL presence of God himself. I agree that it might be in the heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in the right direction and then, be prepared to listen! God Bless

Not our church. Ours is very bright and uplifting, spiritually and literally. That's sad that yours isn't. You should look for one that is more uplifting for you. Which church are you going to that feels so empty?
