Well if they sincerely believe the wrong thing, what good is that? If they sincerely believe they can fly and so jump off a building to their death, did it matter that they were "sincere" in their belief?

Yes.
The rift between the Christian world and the Muslim world is causing bloodshed in the Middle East. Many of those who we have labeled "terrorists," are sincere Muslims. They believe suicide is honorable if the act causes the death of non-Muslims. We are at war with sincere believers of the cause for Islam.
During the 1930s, Adolph Hitler, led millions of young German men to war with speeches that persuaded millions to follow his vision for Germany and a Reich that would last 1000 years.
His followers were sincere.

i was trained professioally to stick to the facts and the truth is the truth. ignorance is no excuse. but in these latter years i realize i believed in so many so-called facts that were not true that i began to wonder if a little fantasy is really important. i began to wonder what difference does it make so long as my loved ones are happy in their little fantasy. if my son believes all that crap about hulk hogan and barry bonds and my daughter believes she is saving the world following a left-wing fantasy of salvation with democrats and expanded welfare, well i know if want her to be happy in this life. right and wrong becomes less important. the facts become less important. tedious facts are for a navy pilot landing on a carrier on a stormy night. get the facts right or die. most things aren't like that. maybe a blend of fantasy and reality makes good living. how do you deal with fantasy? can it just be too real? Yes. No. It is important to one's joy and pleasure of living just how you perceive things. Most of the time i don't think people are in more than half reality and albout half fanstasy. They write their own script hour by hour. You gotta believe. dang good question and got some great responses, eh?

The bible says in John 17:3 This means everlasting life their taking in knowledge of you,the only true God and the one you sent forth Jesus Christ.
So the reverse would be true if you don't take in knowledge you won't have eternal life. So that tells us that sincerity alone will not help you.
Many times the nations surrounding the Jews were wicked and God said to kill everyone of them. We can see why now.
they are vicious and war like and nothing will stop them from killing even their own people. They practiced human sacrifice much like they are still doing today. They were sincere but they were not pleaseing to God.

When Saul was viciously persecuting Christians, he certainly was sincere. He sincerely believed he was doing what pleased God. He was very wrong.
Yes it matters what a person believes. No matter how sincere I may be, if I am displeasing God, it will go very badly for me.

It matters a great deal what a person believes. Jesus said that the only way to the father was through him.
Those who don't believe in Jesus have no way to the father.
The suicide bombers are sincere but they are not acting in accord with accurate knowledge. They are murdering and killing others. God told in Genesis 6 that the earth was full of violence and that was why he was destroying them.
So why would he reward others who are violent?

Of course it matters. What if people believe that their god wants them to declare, promote, and carry out a holy jihad on the peace loving people of this world? If they're sincere, and some of them are, it seriously matters ot the people who they kill and their loved ones. And, the people who have to live in fear that they or someone they love might be next.

A SCUBA diver, takes his air tank and goes diving with it.
As long as the SCUBA diver sincerely believes there is air in his tank will he be ok?
The fact is his sincereity is not relavant.
What is relavant is this one thing: Is there really air in that tank or not.
If there is not, he will die no matter how sincerely he believes otherwise.
So how sincere one is does not matter if they put their faith and trust in a lie, they will die.

Yes. I may sincerely believe that gravity won't effect me when I jump off the top of a house, but in a second or so, reality sets in. At death, we are judged, and reality it will be. Not all religions are the same, and neither are the gods they represent. There is one true God, the God of the Bible.
