Originally I was going to, because I was keeping the honeymoon a secret for the reception. Now that my fiance knows about it, should I still do a toast at our reception? If so, what kind of advice for the format?

Its nice if the groom says a few words, or the bride and groom together, mainly to thank everyone for coming. Don't let it get too long though. If the best man and maid of honor have already said something and you know someone else will too, maybe let the toast go. You don't want your guests to be sitting around listening to speeches while they could be eating/dancing, etc. I've also seen the couple say a blessing for the meal, which is nice if that's within your beliefs.

It's not necessary...the only person expected to give a toast/speech is the bestman. If you don't mind speaking in front of people then it's always a nice gesture to thank your guests for sharing this special day with you and you can also use the opportunity to make a toast to your bride. My fiance plans to say something short and sweet before we cut the cake.

Good luck and congrats!

I have never seen a groom say a speech. It is usually reserved only for the Best Man and maybe the Father of the Bride if he is paying. Let people eat their food and don't drag it out.

You could do a toast to the bride, if you like. However, usually the bride and groom just do a bit of a thank you at the program.

I was at a wedding in Seattle last night and the bride and groom both toasted each other. It was great. It's your wedding. Do what you want.

Yes you should. At least have a few sentances thanking the guests for coming, anybody who helped make the wedding happen, and some nice words for your new wife.

Typically, the couple stands together and they thank the guests for attending, traveling distances and sharing their wonderful day together. Not really a speech, just a big THANK YOU!

I would let the best man take care of the speech. It's one less thing for you to worry about on your big day!
