The new testament was written basically about Jesus and His apostles. This is a new covenant (agreement). Jesus came and fulfilled the old testament law. There are many versions of the Bible. Some are easier to read, some are a word for word translation, while some are paraphrases, which gives the meaning. The basic message is the same.

Hi Sam,
The Old Testament was written prior to the Birth of the Messiah (Jesus Christ) and contains many prophesies of HIS BIRTH. His linage and the many prophets of OLD are contained in it. It also gives information about Judaism which was GOD'S chosen People prior to the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Christ. Jesus' Apostles spread the GOOD NEWS of the New Testament and started what is now Christianity. Those who follow the religion of iSLAM are following what a man wrote after reading & studying the Old Testament scriptures and began his own "religious movement". Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

First of all Islam has nothing to do with it. But as for the old and new testament these reflect two convenants - The Old reflected in the Law of Moses, and the New reflected in the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. Even in the Old it predicts the New saying, "The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them," declares the LORD. "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." Jer 31:31-34

as for "versions", those are just because the original were written in a foreign language, the "versions" are translations, and for anyone who has translated a foreign language knows, there's often different ways to translate a passage which nonetheless keeps to the meaning and intention of the original.

It's not that there are different version, my dear. the old Testament comes from the Jewish and they are acknowledged by Christians as the word of the same God they worship. The new Testament is exclusively Christian, there you'll find, for example, the Gospels telling the life of Jesus who for Christians is the saviour, the Messiah but for the Jewish is just another prophet. It has to do with beliefs, not versions of he same story.

The Old Testament was basically looking forward to the coming messiah. It has books of history, history of the world from creation to the splitting of the nation of Israel and the eventual fall of the house of Judah and house of Israel. It also contains the law, the ceremonies and the holy days of the Israelites. You also find prophecy, poetry and proverbs. All these writings, look forward to the coming of the messiah. The New Testament contains the gospels, which are the accounts of Christ's life, the history of the early church and letters written by the apostles to various churches. The entire Bible is all about Christ, the old covenant and the new covenant, looking forward to His coming, His death and resurrection, and the theology of the new covenant explained through the letters.

They are two different books. The New Testament is concerned exclusively with Jesus. The Old Testament is Everything Else except the Koran, which is the 3rd in the trilogy of the Adventures of the God of Abraham.

Old Testament = Old Covenant
New Testament = New Covenant

When Jesus came He created a new contract between God and man. This contract was ratified in His Blood and declared at the Last Supper.

The old contract was written in the Law but the new contract was written in our hearts.

The old testament was written for the first God, Jehovah, and for the first set of chosen people, the Jews. The new testament was written for the Son of God, Jesus, and the second set of chosen people, the Gentiles.

The Koran was written by Ishmael's followers -- Ishmael was the son of Abraham, a Jew, so you would have to incorporate the Koran when you discuss old testaments.
