Depends on the shampoo. I use Dove or Suave on my dog. You can also use Dawn dish washing liquid. It smothers fleas & leaves your dog smelling fresh & shiny.

OK. I'll try to keep this simple and sweet. DILUTE. And always rinse at least 2 more times than you think you need to. NO DAWN. Except on very VERY dirty dogs with thick coats AND if they are naturally Very greasy dogs. Same thing applies for dawn though,...always rince twice after you think your done. Especially when using Dawn.!!!!!The worst thing you can do while bathing is NOT rinse well enough. Diet is also a factor on what their coats require. Conditioner is also ok. Factor= Rinse, Rinse, Rinse, and then do it some more. There are some doggie shampoo's out there that aren't to expensive in the long run. Get a subscription to Pet edge. You'll find something in there reasonable and then not have to worry so much about Human .vs. Pet Shampoo. If dry skin........try Selsun Blue or Head&Shoulders(regular)...(delute that also). if you feel the need to only use human products.....Also look for the products that are proven and NOT tested on animals. Good Luck and take care...

You don't care about anything else, like the comfort of your dog? So if a shampoo makes you itchy, you'd keep using it just because it won't kill you?
No, human shampoo won't harm your dog, but it can dry out the skin and make them itchy and uncomfortable. Get a good dog shampoo.

I am a professional groomer and from waht we were taught in school is the PH in human shampoo is to high for a dog and will eventually dry out teh hair and it removes to much oil from the hair. The best thing is any kind of dog shampoo.

It can irritate the skin, but it doesn't happen in all cases. It can be harmful in the fact that your dog will scratch, bite, gnaw, etc to relieve the irritation which can cause sores which can get infected...all in all yes, it can potentially harm the dog.
They make special dog shampoo for a reason, so it'd be best not to risk it and just use what's meant for them.

If you're planning to use a human shampoo make sure it is a baby shampoo or for sensitive scalps.
Perfumes and other cleansers in regular shampoos can cause irritations and allergies.
In any case you should use a pet shampoo.

I use moisturizing shampoo on the dog. The vet said she has beautiful hair and healthy looking. I told him what I use and her regular vitamins and he just looked at me and never said a word about the shampoo

Most will dry out their skin. So depends on whether you consider that harmful. We use vet reccommended Head and Shoulders however because our dog has dry skin and dandruff and this shampoo works great for us.

It will most likely dry your dogs skin and coat out. Humans and dogs have entirely different skin and hair PH levels. They are formulated entirely different. If you use human shampoo you'll probably have a dog with dry , flaky skin and dead dry looking hair.
