Labs and Retrievers are great w/ kids. They are farely easy to train and like to be active adn play. Just like children! Labs can vary in size but typically the smallest is a female yellow lab. Retrievers can vary too but mostly they're about the same. Good Luck :)

An American Pit Bull Terrier. The "Nanny Dog". Petey in the Our Gang movies was a pit. It was, at one time, the most popular family dog.
I have one and she loves everyone, especially kids. She has laid on the floor next to my baby grandson for more then a hour. She would not leave his side. She lets him pull and play with her ears while she licks his toes.
She is almost the most lovable dog I have ever had.
The most lovable is out of your size range. He was a big Old English Sheep Dog.

I would suggest a labrodor of some kind or a golden retriever but you have to teach the dog to be nice around kids. I have seen retrievers that are vicious because of how the owner treated it but i have seen pit bulls, rottweilers, and german shepperds that were the most loving dogs around kids that you would ever find.

I own two pit bulls and they very good with kids,my kids beat up on them and they take every bit of it and just lay there. They have saved my wife and kids many of times and are very people friendly and kid safe. Read up on any breed you get from independent sources to get the best for your lifestyle.

Define medium. I consider medium to be about 50-60 lbs if this is so I suggest a pointer or lab. If you want smaller I suggest a beagle.

another vote for the Golden Retriever or any Lab. They are loving and wonderful pets. If you don't want any dog hair, also consider a poodle.

japanese spitz. keeshond. samoyed.
Depends what sort of dog you like, the above are gorgeous friendly fluffy ones. But other dogs like staffy's and pitbulls are usually good with kids as well when they're brought up with kids at a young age. Its really how you train your dog. Good luck.
