Have you put the word out to all of your friends that you are available? How about night classes at local adult education facility? Even if you don't meet someone, you will get out of residence, learn a new skill, and have something to do.
Do you have a dog?
If you take them for walks, sometimes you can meet fellow dog owners.
Do you like sports?
You could sign up for tennis lessons, horseback riding, or whatever you like, and meet people.
How about a bicycle? There are bike riders that take rides together all over their area. There were 28,000 riders that visited my small town this week. Much partying!!!
You didn't mention your age, but there are always more single ladies than men on cruise ships--usually older ladies.
It is good to do things you enjoy and if you meet new people along the way, it is a bonus, and gives you common ground of things you can do together.

I know how you feel, I found myself in a similar situation a little over a year ago, didn't want to meet anyone at the bar and didn't attend church regular enough really to do that so i tried yahoo personals. I thought it would be great because i would be able to open a dialog with someone and maybe get to know someone before all the other stuff. I have to admit did it not only work but it was fun. Was kinda pain in the butt filling in all the information to get started but it is there for the girls to get a brief glimpse of what kinda person you are before they contact you. I met my fiance on personals a year ago last June and we set a date to get married this coming October. I would recommend giving it a shot, you've got nothing to lose. I wish you the best of luck no matter what you decide!
PEACE

I found my beau of the past 6 years on Yahoo Personals. I liked the Personals section b/c if I didn't want to meet them then I didn't have to. You set your time schedule, etc. - no pressure. If there is pressure, you can report it! Good luck...
Oh...try Church activities also, if you're into the Church. Some places have excellent Singles Ministries. Again, good luck...

I AM RECENTLY SINGLE AFTER 9YRS. SO I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM SELF CONSCIOUS ABOUT WHO I BRING AROUND MY CHILDREN,I DO NOT GO OUT TO MEET PEOPLE I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT DOING MY REGULAR ROUTINE SUCH AS GOING TO THE GROCERY STORE,CAR WASH,OUT TO EAT,VISITING FRIENDS,OR TAKING A WALK THRU MY NEIGHBORHOOD,I AM MEETING A LOT OF PEOPLE.I TEND TO MEET NEW PEOPLE WHEN I AM NOT LOOKING FOR THEM WHICH IS PERFECT FOR ME.
