Well back through time heavyweights had to have a lot better stamina as title fights were usually 15 rounds sometimes a lot more than that. But the heavyweights back then were more like crusierweights and light heavyweights are today in size anyhow with many exceptions. George Foreman proved that many fighters could compete with todays fighters. Ali might have a little trouble as he wouldn't be allowed to use some of his tactics but he is a smart enough fighter to think up new schemes and strategies for the big fighters.

Of the top names that would struggle I'd say Tha Ambling Alp Primo Carnera, the Pottawatomie Giant, Jess Willard; and some of the other BIG heavyweights of the past. I think thatback then they were so successful because of their unusual size and not so much on their abilities. Todays boxer has both. Klitchko can throw constant jabs for 12 rounds if necessary. Carnera who was 6'5 and Willard who was 6'6 would be more like a Jameel McCline of today always a draw and able to get fights purely on size alone but never expected to win against a big name. A safe fight for a Valuev, Chris Byrd, Calvin Brock or Klitchko.

The only guy that I might be tempted to pick out is Marciano due to size. But that may likely not be true....considering the quality of the heavyweight division now days, I can see a 189 lbs guy ripping through these duds.

The REAL question would be how many of today's HW's would survive in the past?

The answer: None of today's active HW would be able to survive pre 1995.

This division is a joke at best. There is no one in the HW's that has a hint of boxing skill like was displayed 10+ years ago. Talk about a downward trend! My legally blind 65 year old Mother might be able to get a title in that division!

Any heavyweight before Larry Holmes because they are too small for today heavyweight. Size does matter, if size doesn't matter then why are we having weight division? Why don't we put them all together? Remember the great Sugar Ray Robinson when he moved up to fight the Average Joey Maxim. But your question is a trick question. And the answer is yes they will do well in today's generation because if they fight today they will be in the cruiser weight or light heavyweight not heavyweight.

Rocky Marciano. He's too small and too light by today's standards, plus, he's too cut-prone. In this age, when fights get stopped as soon as blood starts trickling out, Rocky would always lose on cuts.
