There are two plastic plugs on the back of the case. both near the bottom. Both on the rear of the vehicle one near the output driveline to the rear, and one just behind and under the front driveline. About 1" plastic hex heads.

Remove the lower plug and allow the fluid to drain, reinstall the plug, then follow the procedure below for filling and checking the fluid level.

Clean the fill plug area on the side of the transfer case. NOTE: The vehicle must be level when checking and adding fluid to the transfer case.
Remove the fill plug using appropriate wrench.
The fluid level should be6.35 mm (1/4 inch) below the bottom of the fill plug hole. If not, continue on to the next step.
Use only Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or equivalent MERCON fluid, and add enough fluid through the fill plug hole to bring the level to 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) below the hole.
Install the fill plug and tighten to 14-27 Nm (10-20 ft. lbs.).
