Me and my boyfriend have lived in the same city now for a few years but just recently he moved four hours away. Now he has already come back to visit like he promised but I was wondering if any body had any tips on how to keep it together and how to make his departure after he stays to visit easier.

Hi. LDR's are difficult. I do agree with some of these answers..communication is extremely important. Trust is as well. I have been away since Dec 06, so about 8 months now. I am not going to lie...we have had our rough patches. I am very much in love with him, and I have every intention to be with him, and not in an LDR forever. You have to want it to work out..you have to work at it. No relationship is easy, but LDR's definately are not easy. I believe first & foremost you have to be in love. Then, communication & trust play a huge part in keeping things together.

Best of luck:)

I was in a LTR for five years. It got increasingly more difficult for me to let him go on that plane (he lived across the Atlantic Ocean) or to get on it myself when it was my turn.

We finally broke up because I was too attached to put up with the see-saw of it.

LTR's work best when there's an end in sight. If you can plan to be back together in 5 or even 10 years, that makes it a little easier than an open-ended situation.

The departure you will have to handle yourself. Don't cling, he has to go. Make sure you keep in touch every day. Phone him at some time convenient to both of you, (far better than e-mails, which are better than nothing) but don't stay on the phone for hours, unless you both want to.

ALWAYS.... ALWAYS.... ALWAYS... communicate....even though he is only four hours away... it is very important that you talk to each other everyday at least for a few minutes and see how each of you are doing and how you are feeling about the relationship.... dont hold back your feelings about the relationship... if your not happy tell him about it... discuss what should happen and move on from there... communication is key!!! good luck sweetie :O)
