My PS3 takes about 2 hours to fully charge on a extremely low battery. All you do is charge the controller until the red light on the front of the controller stops blinking. You can even charge the controller while you play your games and you can charge it in the USB port on a laptop or computer.

charge untill the red led on the controller stops blinking, it takes around 1-2 hours from a dead battery to fully charge state. or else if 1 bar is down then 20 mins it gets recharged.

i think it take about 4 hours if your controller is completely dead of course it last about 24-30 hours straight so i mean you can charge it while either playing online or like the guy mention you can charge it using your computer because it won't charge if the ps3 isn't on!!!
