I design speakers for a living and I would be looking at Rel. It's their speciality.

relies upon on how that sub is under pressure up although that's probably no longer a subject. If the amp has a 'low point' subwoofer output which would be a unmarried RCA output then you definately can upload maximum lively subs. you do no longer point out a funds yet assuming that's not extensive, some thing like the BK Gemini sub ought to be appropriate for you. that's a small sub yet rather nicely made and rather a extreme sub and a brilliant step up from the single you have have been given. in the journey that your funds stretches then attempt the XLS200 additionally from BK. I even have the XXLS400 that's a beast yet i think of that is overkill for something of your kit.

Hi. Subwoofers as you know are speakers that supplement the main speakers and only play the lowest two octaves below 80 HZ .The size of the room and the placement of the subwoofer is critical for its performance. Most rooms are really not large enough for subs to work properly. So what you are hearing is only half and quarter wavelenghts of a complete cycle resulting in standing waves that resonate betweem parallel walls which is unpleasant to the ear. To balance up the sound two subs are better than one as they are an extension of the bass of your two front left and right speakers
Like everything else in audio ,quality is more important than quanity.Choose the clearer subs over the bigger ones . Place them as close as possible to the front speakers to balance the sound. If they are built solid with no cabinet resonances ,they can be used as a platform for your two front speakers If the sub sits on the floor with spiked feet and spikes or performance cones are attached to the bottom of the speakers there will be no vibration from the sub to the speaker .This will give the best sound from the subs as it looks like a continuation of your two speakers.Believe me it will work and you will have a uniform pattern of sound. And you will save on space as the subs won't take up too much room.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

What brand speakers have you got for the two front left and right speakers ? .And what sub are you using at the moment ?.And why do you want to replace it ? If you can supply these details i will have some idea what to look for .Thanks.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All speakers have their own particular sound added to the sound they are trying to reproduce and that also includes subwoofers ,particularly the sound of the higher frequencies where the start to merge with your normal bass cut off area.

Have a look at some of these subs to get an idea of what you may like. These are the rec. ret. prices,(American Dollars) but you may get them cheaper by shopping around.

NHT Classic $799
Paradigm $350
Definitive Technology $570
Velodyne DLS 375 O R $500
KEF PSW 2500 $650

For home theater I would choose either M&K (Great but expensive) or HSU (very good and inexpensive -- factory direct online).

Concerning Robert's recommendations I would comment that the NHT sub is very tight and accurate. Good for music. It is not a great home theater sub though as it bottoms out too easily with really low bass passages. I don't like KEF subs. Definitive Technology subs seem a little too boomy (emphasizing higher bass frequencies) to me. At least the ones I have heard do this. Paradigm does make some good home theater subs. Some of the mass market Velodyne does not live up to the company name.
